SUMMARY:

Develop engineering design, substantiation, and support documentation suitable for FAA and customer approval for complex avionics and aircraft electrical systems. Duties will include independent management or collaborative effort of task assignments from a Project Lead or Engineering Management. Provide assistance and mentorship to less-experienced Engineering staff. Conduct professional interaction with different members of internal and external organizations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Design complex avionics and electrical systems for aircraft interiors, lighting controls, power distribution, communications, and wire diagrams.

·         Provide support for troubleshooting efforts, and write disposition instruction for non- routine maintenance issues.

·         Analyze and substantiate complex electrical designs using standard accepted industry practices. Produce technical analysis for which FAA approval can be obtained that ensures compliance with all appropriate regulatory, customer, OEM, and maintenance requirements.

·         Ensure conformance to all applicable customer, OEM, regulatory, and maintenance requirements.

·         Approve engineering documents within authorized signatory level.

·         Train and assist other Engineers in performance of their assigned tasks.

·         Represent the customer on engineering technical matters with OEM's, customers, operators and regulatory authorities.

·         Interact in a professional manner with members of internal and external organizations.

·         Independently evaluate, select, adapt, and modify techniques, procedures, and criteria to solve problems encountered.

·         Ensure projects are accomplished within a reasonable time frame as defined by a Project Lead, or by Engineering Management. 

·         Demonstrate a commitment to excellence for producing a quality product. Improve and promote quality through accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Position may require overnight travel, being on-call, and responding to technical AOG situations during off hours.

·         Position may require being assigned to alternative shifts such as Day, Night, Swing, and Weekends.

·         Assist Engineering Management with additional tasks when business needs arise.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

·         In addition to the duties listed above, this position may require additional engineering duties and requirements as follows:

·         Review existing technical data, technical drawings, and previous history for entire airframe structure, avionics, indication, lighting, and electrical systems, mechanical / hydraulic systems and components, engine pylon/struts, and landing gear.

·         Provide written technical accomplishment instructions for aircraft repairs or modifications to maintenance, customer, and regulatory authorities as necessary.

·         Communicate technical details of repair or modification designs through technical writing and computer drafting functions.

·         Coordinate and assist in implementing new policies and procedures within the Engineering department to help improve efficiency.

·         Lead activities of direct Engineering staff at the discretion of Engineering Management to achieve accurate and timely completion of repairs and modifications during maintenance and component overhaul visits.

·         Plan, review, organize, and prioritizes engineering tasks to ensure Engineering completes tasks and maintains responsiveness in order to maintain aircraft, component, and engineering program schedules.

·         Provide primary point of contact between customer representatives, internal partners, and Engineering to ensure consistent action in accordance with customer requirements.

·         Carrie out the policies and procedures of the customer, Engineering, and notify Engineering Management when these procedures are not followed.

 

Desired Qualifications:            

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering is highly preferred)

5+ years of experience as an Electrical/Avionics Design Engineer in Aviation

Previous design or integration experience of Satellite Communication (SATCOM) systems, Inflight Entertainment (IFE), Cabin Management Systems (CMS).

Avionics Certification experience; work experience within an ODA delegation, writing certification plans, writing test plans.

Previous work experience with Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) projects

 

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in an environment where limited standardization exists.

Strong PC skills will include e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, communications, operating systems, and solid computer drafting skills.

Regulatory requirements for airworthiness, for the FAA and various foreign authorities.

Ability to understand and promote the policies / procedures of the customer and Engineering.

Ability to understand and apply the policies / procedures of all customer(s)

Ability to understand and apply information from Structural Repair Manuals (SRMs), Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (MMs), Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPCs), Service Bulletins (SBs) and other aircraft reference materials

Interpretation and use of aircraft manufacturing, assembly, and installation drawings.

Assertive communication skills are required.

Ability to accomplish engineering tasks using standard accepted industry practices.
