The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) provides subway, bus and commuter rail service between the five boroughs of New York City, Westchester County, Rockland County, Long Island and parts of Connecticut as well as manages many of the bridges and tunnels within New York City. The bus systems of the MTA (New York City Transit Department of Buses and MTA Bus) have 18,500 employees and a fleet of 5,900 buses that transport 2.7m daily riders.  Our goal is to provide the public with safe, reliable and clean buses for service.  Immediate openings are available for:

 

General Superintendent, Maintenance (Job ID 78233):

 

The General Superintendent’s primary responsibility is to provide safe and reliable buses that support the agency’s daily delivery of safe, clean, and dependable service for the riding public. In this critical role, the General Superintendent oversees day-to-day facilities and equipment maintenance activities for an entire depot or maintenance shop within NYC Transit or MTA Bus. The incumbent also develops, implements and maintains strict budgets and directs managers and supervisors to accomplish depot/division goals. Coordinates activities with the community at large in response to issues that arise from changing priorities. The selected candidate will also manage a full-scale disciplinary and labor relations process.

 

Requirements:

 

Qualified candidates must possess eight (8) years of related transportation experience including a minimum of four (4) years of supervisory/managerial experience.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

 

Knowledge of transportation industry rules and regulations

Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance operations, including preventative maintenance, contract administration and equipment specifications 

Knowledge of labor relations 

The ability to analyze information, assess its reliability and make related operational decisions

 

 

Superintendent, Maintenance (Job ID 78065):

 

The Superintendent of Maintenance directs and manages the day-to-day administrative/management activities of the maintenance operation, including activities pertaining to personnel, labor relations, budget, correspondence, administrative procedures, production, quality repairs and management reporting. 

 

In addition to positions assigned to perform bus depot and shop functions, there are positions available on the SPEAR Team (maintenance records and fleet scheduling data base system), in Paratransit (over see carrier/contract vehicles, facilities and records), the Training Center (Maintenance Instructor), Customer Services/Technical Services (assist bus depots with fleet issues, develop test procedures and standard practices), and New Bus Procurement (vendor inspector unit will require travel to Bus Manufacturing Facilities to inspect, test and approve shipment of newly built buses.)

 

Requirements:

 

Qualified candidates must possess six (6) years of related transportation experience and a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or managerial experience.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

 

Strong knowledge of vehicular maintenance operations and preventative maintenance procedure

Knowledge of transportation repair policies and procedures

Experience in personnel development, work prioritization, and overtime distribution

Working knowledge of repair software applications

 

All qualified candidates for both the General Superintendent and Superintendent positions must have:

 

The ability to make quick decisions in a high-pressured environment and effectively deal with availability of labor and equipment constraints

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

PC skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
