The first weeks in June are tomato picking season here in the Bayou, and for a city that embraces its foods and flavors as much as New Orleans does, that calls for a celebration. The Annual Creole Tomato Fest takes place on June 13-14, 2015, throughout the French Market District.
If there’s one thing guests of Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast want to enjoy in NOLA, it’s great eating, and not only will you get that at this fest, but it comes served with some mighty fine music too.
A star ingredient in Louisiana cooking, Creole tomatoes were originally imported from the West Indies, and thrive in our nutrient-rich soil and sub-tropical climate. During the French Market Creole Tomato Fest, now in its 29th year, visitors can sample this local gem in traditional dishes such as Fried Green Tomatoes, Creole Tomato Basil Crepes, Creole Tomato Bloody Mary’s, and Creole Tomato Cream Crawfish Pies.
The festival kicks off with a parade on Saturday and continues throughout Sunday with cooking demonstrations, a farmer’s market, food and beverage booths, family activities and musical entertainment. This year’s lineup has eight great acts including Leroy Jones Quartet, Kelcy Mae, Washboard Chaz and Big Daddy O.
