ArcelorMittal USA is pleased to announce the publication of our fifth annual Corporate Responsibility (CR) Report and our third annual Fact Book, showcasing our operational opportunities and challenges, our work in our communities and our place in the steel industry for 2013. In our 2013 Corporate Responsibility Report, we outline our bold and forward-thinking approach to stakeholder engagement and community involvement. We share the progress we’ve made on key performance indicators (KPIs) and the opportunities that lie ahead for ArcelorMittal’s CR practice. In our 2013 Fact Book, we provide an in-depth look at the steel industry and our operations in the United States, highlighting the challenges and opportunities facing the industry, our business and our most important stakeholder, our employees. Highlights of our 2013 reports include: ArcelorMittal remains the largest employer in many of the communities in which our facilities are located. Nationwide, we employed over 18,000 individuals with a direct economic contribution of $1.98 billion through wages and benefits. ArcelorMittal USA has nearly 20 percent of domestic raw steel capacity and produced more than 16.2 million tons of raw steel. ArcelorMittal USA achieved our best lost time injury (LTI) frequency rate, an 18 percent improvement over 2012.   ArcelorMittal USA’s community philanthropic investments totaled $7.2 million in cash grants, employee giving and company matched gifts. ArcelorMittal USA contributed $61 million toward global research and development efforts, much of which was focused on the development of advanced high strength steels for the automotive industry. ArcelorMittal achieved a momentous weight reduction with its new, innovative ultra-lightweight car door solution.   ArcelorMittal USA continued our investment in the public private partnership Sustain our Great Lakes (SOGL). Since 2008, our partnership with SOGL through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and other partners has leveraged $72.2 million in conservation and protection efforts in the Great Lakes region.
