You don’t think of New York City as a place to cut loose with a supercar – but the city’s auto show seems to draw buyers of those ultraperformance marvels.

Makers ranging from Audi to Nissan to Mercedes-Benz to bespoke maker Spyker will show high-powered offerings at Javits Center. Several other brands will be making statements.

Hyundai’s new Genesis luxury brand offers a concept, Toyota will show the Prius Plug-in and Subaru brings the next-generation Impreza.

Here are some key debuts:

Acura

Acura will show a refresh of the MDX crossover, its best-selling nameplate. While not entirely redesigned, the automaker promises a heavy refresh of the third-generation, three-row crossover. In addition new styling, Acura promises the 2017 MDX will have “advanced new powertrain technology,” but declined to elaborate.

2017 Audi R8 Spyder

Audi

Audi will reveal the 2017 R8 Spyder supercar at the New York auto show, Automotive News has learned. Details about the car weren’t available ahead of the reveal but expect the droptop version of Audi’s Le Mans-bred supercar to be powered by the same 540-hp naturally aspirated V-10 offered in the hard-top R8.

The Buick Encore will resemble the Opel Mokka, shown.

Buick

Buick will unwrap a refresh of its Buick Encore, the subcompact crossover that debuted in 2012 and has fast become the brand’s volume leader. The 2017 model is expected to get a new front fascia and new grille that adopts the new wing element from the 2017 LaCrosse. The interior is slated for enhancements too, including a touch-screen infotainment system and decluttered center stack. The Encore will resemble the Opel Mokka shown earlier this month in Geneva.

Chevrolet

Chevrolet will show the Camaro ZL1, a lightweight, supercharged, 640-hp track-ready road rocket. It’s the first General Motors car to get an optional new 10-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual transmission is standard. Chevy engineers reduced the car’s weight by about 200 pounds compared with the current ZL1. “It will compare well to any sports coupe, at any price and in any setting,” says GM product development chief Mark Reuss. The ZL1 arrives late this year. No prices have been announced, but the previous model ranged between $55,000 and $62,000.

Genesis

Hyundai’s luxury brand will unveil a coupe or sedan concept roughly the size of the G70, the BMW 3 series rival that Genesis plans to launch in 2017. Though it’s more production-ready than last year’s Vision G concept, sources say, it’s still a styling exercise — not a preview of the G70.

The Kia Cadenza is based on South Korea’s K7, shown.

Kia

Kia plans to unveil the 2017 Cadenza, a full-size sedan that vies with the Toyota Avalon. Sold as the K7 in Kia’s home market of South Korea, the Cadenza has been redesigned for the first time since it launched in the U.S. in 2013, halfway through its global product cycle. Kia revealed the design of the Cadenza in late 2015 and launched the K7 in South Korea in January.

Mazda

Mazda has planned an off-site event, and is promising to reveal a “secret” with executives from its Hiroshima headquarters on hand. One possibility seemed to be a coupe-styled crossover based on the Koeru concept from last fall’s Frankfurt auto show, but Mazda announced that the rumored CX-4 will be a China-only model for now, and that it will bow at the Beijing Motor Show. The secret for New York may be a folding hardtop version of the MX-5 Miata roadster, which is currently only sold with a cloth roof.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz says it will have five global debuts in New York, but it’s only revealing three prior to the show. However, an educated guess would be that we’ll see the GLC Coupe (spy shots have been circulating online) and, oh, perhaps that C63 Cabriolet.

Meanwhile, the vehicles Mercedes is talking about in advance: The 2017 AMG E43 Sedan features a biturbo 3.0-liter V-6 engine producing 396 hp and 384 pounds-feet of torque, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. It is expected to go on sale by early 2017.The 2017 AMG GLC43 will get 362 hp and 384 pounds-feet of torque from the biturbo 3.0-liter V-6. It is expected to go on sale this fall. The 2017 CLA250 and AMG CLA45 have received facelifts with a revised front fascia, new wheel options and a redesigned rear bumper. They go on sale this summer.

Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi will show the U.S.-spec versions of the Outlander PHEV and Mirage G4, which will be launched for the 2017 model year. Mitsubishi has sold the G4, a sedan version of its ultracheap Mirage hatchback, in Canada since 2014, while the Outlander PHEV has been on sale in Europe and Japan since 2013.

Nissan

Nissan will divide its New York show attention between two dramatically different products — a redesigned GT-R sports car and a more mainstream version of the new-generation Titan pickup.

Although the GT-R has been in almost constant evolution since arriving in the United States in 2008, the low-volume supercar is now ready for a significant facelift. Look for Nissan to kick up the power of its current 545-hp V-6.

The company also will present its upcoming Titan pickup — not to be confused with the turbodiesel Titan HD that began reaching showrooms at the end of December. Hinted at but not revealed during last month’s Chicago Auto Show, the slightly smaller, gasoline-powered Titan half-ton will reveal how Nissan intends to take the full-size truck to higher sales volumes.

Spyker C8 Preliator

Spyker

Spyker, the Dutch maker of handbuilt sports cars, will show the C8 Preliator, its third-generation sports car. Spyker will produce only 50 units worldwide.

Subaru

Subaru will show its new-generation 2017 Impreza. The compact sedan and five-door hatchback will be the first cars to use Subaru’s new Global Platform that can accommodate gasoline, electric and plug-in hybrid systems. The cars feature Subaru’s new design language showing a more dynamic and athletic body. The Impreza will be built at Subaru’s factory in Lafayette, Ind.

2017 Subaru Impreza

Toyota

The biggest news will be a new model to the Prius lineup, though Toyota hasn’t said which model. A new generation of the Prius Plug-In is widely expected, considering it’s too early for next-generation versions of the compact C and larger V wagon (if they come to the U.S. at all). The Prius Plug-In would follow the mainstream Prius that went on sale at the beginning of the year, and challenge Chevy’s second-generation Volt hatchback for buyers looking for some electric-only range without taking the full EV plunge.

A refreshed Highlander also debuts. While cosmetically it’s more of a nip and tuck, there are substantial changes underneath the sheet metal.

A new 3.5-liter V-6 replaces the earlier engine, and a new eight-speed automatic transmission and engine stop/start feature will be standard on a V-6 models. Power and efficiency will both increase, though Toyota declined to provide specifics. As with other models in Toyota’s lineup, a sportier SE model joins the Highlander family.

The car formerly known as the Scion FR-S will debut in New York under the Toyota banner with a new name — the Toyota 86. The change will take place for the 2017 model year and gives the two-door coupe the same name that Toyota uses in Asia, Australia and South America. With the new name comes a light midlife update for the coupe: front and rear bumpers are new, as are the LED headlights and taillights. The engine and transmission carry over, but horsepower is up by 5 to 205 total and torque rises by 7 pounds-feet to 158 pounds-feet total.
