Audi R8

Audi has come away from this year’s “Red Dot Award: Product Design 2013” competition with distinctions for three models: The Audi R8 impressed the high-profile international jury with its “highest design quality”, which earned it the top award “Red Dot: Best of the Best”.

The Product Design competition has existed since 1955. Its award, the Red Dot, is an internationally recognised quality seal. The best products receive the Red Dot: Best of the Best award.

It’s given for groundbreaking design and is the top prize in each category, in this case the Automotive and Transportation design category.

The Audi A3 Sportback, already a repeat winner, and the Audi S3 were also rated very highly, winning the “red dot” for their high styling quality. Head of Interior Design Enzo Rothfuss took receipt of the awards at the red dot gala in the German city of Essen’s Aalto Theater. He expressed his thanks to the jurors and the design team: “Design is a dynamic process in which we all seek to blend tradition with vision.”

In its statement by the jury, the Audi design team explained the concept behind the R8:

“The Audi R8 defines an entirely new type of sports car – exuding sophistication, also in terms of driving characteristics. It was designed to an extraordinarily high level and looks very refined. Its proportions are very harmonious, it is perfectly balanced, and its aesthetics are high class. The way the motor presents itself in the back of the car makes the Audi R8 a highly honest sports car.”
