Olympian Grant Hackett has posted photos of him with a bruised eye on Instagram. The 36-year-old Olympic swimmer stated that his brother Craig beat him. The photo was posted a day after the swimmer had an alleged mental breakdown in his parent’s home in Mermaid Beach. According to reports, his family felt like he became a danger them.
During the incident, his family called the police and witnesses say that they saw the Olympic swimmer thrusting a knife into a chopping board, news.com.au reports. Photos also reveal that he was wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and a baseball cap while being taken to watchhouse in Gold Coast.
Meanwhile, Craig argues that they no longer know how to deal with the swimmer. The family is not encouraged by the current situation. Craig adds that his brother is a danger not only to himself but also to the community. He adds that Grant is not the same person they know.
Three hours after his arrest, Grant was released. The Olympic swimmer told reporters that he was not feeling great. Reports say that he might have been admitted a Gold Coast hospital for treatment.
Grant’s father, Nev, explains that his son was drinking heavily and became aggressive and abusive. They were forced to call the cops. Eight officers arrived at the house and arrested Grant while he was sleeping.
“Grant’s got a medical problem and it manifested itself here this morning … he was raving and ranting,” Nev told the Gold Coast Bulletin. “He’s been receiving treatment from a doctor. He’s big and powerful when he’s not happy. We decided he needed some treatment but there was no way he was going to go and get treatment this morning so we called the police. The only way the police can do anything under the law of the land is to arrest him for domestic violence.”
The father admits that the family has a long battle. However, they will do everything they can to help their son. He adds that they know how hard it is to deal with problems like this. Meanwhile, Craig also said that his parents were nervous wrecks after the incident. He also says that this problem will not disappear quickly and would take time.
“This is now a chronic problem and it looks like it’s not going to go away in a hurry,” Craig said. “From a mental health perspective, I hope something can be done.”
