Clubs prepare for Volvo National Sailing and Boating Day, 1 February

Three weeks from now many of New Zealand’s yachting and boating clubs will be buzzing with activity as part of the 2015 Volvo National Sailing and Boating Day on Sunday 1 February.

Bringing sailing and boating to a wider audience and celebrating what is commonly called the ‘sport for life’ is the main focus of the day. The Yachting New Zealand led initiative (first introduced in 2014) is and chance for member Clubs to showcase what they offer to the local community and to answer the questions of those who want to know more about how to get into sailing and boating.

David Abercrombie, Yachting New Zealand Chief Executive says; “After the success of the inaugural Volvo National Sailing and Boating Day in 2014 it is very exciting that so many Clubs have upped the ante this year. There are some great activities planned and plenty of opportunities for the general public to give sailing a go in all manner of boats and boards – big and small.”

“I’d like to encourage anyone who is interested, to find out where their local Volvo National Sailing and Boating Day registered Club is and get along.”

Clubs spread from as far as Opua in Northland to Riverton in Southland will see members gather, to welcome members of the public through the doors with a wide range of opportunities to take part and for spectators.

Yachting New Zealand’s three Volvo Sailing… Have a Go! trailers are being put to use on the day one stationed at Hobsonville Yacht Club in Auckland, and the other two at Clubs in Christchurch and Wellington.
