I’ve learned from experience what a wonderful, magical, and yes, uncomfortable time pregnancy can be. Growing a baby is hard work and pregnancy took quite a toll on my body (I know that plenty of other mums can relate!). I experienced various symptoms during my three pregnancies, including morning sickness, migraines, acid reflux, gas, swollen feet, and insomnia.  But, luckily for me (and other pregnant mums), there are ways to ease many of these pregnancy-related discomforts. In fact, I’ve tried plenty of options to help make those 9+ months go by more comfortably. Here are some tips from mum friends that may work for you. Feel better soon!

Essential Oils

Using essential oils during pregnancy can help combat nausea, ease stress, and relieve headaches, according to some research. In fact, I used an essential oil diffuser during my three pregnancies (double check with your doctor before you use one, too).

Supplements

Heartburn is a discomfort well known by pregnant women and some products aren't appropriate or recommended during pregnancy. But TruNatal Heartburn Relief  is specially formulated for pregnancy and contains calcium, which neutralizes acid on contact. TruNatal also has supplements to address nausea and regularity, two other concerns that often make pregnant women uncomfortable.

Prenatal Massiage

During pregnancy your body produces hormones to relax your ligaments and joints for childbirth. But those hormones, combined with your rapidly-growing belly and breasts, can do a number on your spine and pelvis -- which, for me, caused round ligament pain and sciatica. I coped by getting prenatal massage and seeing a chiropracter who specialized in prenatal care (check with your doctor before doing the same).

The Bella Band

Before I was ready to switch to maternity clothes, I used the Bella Band to make my snug pants more comfortable. It helps support your tummy and keep your non-maternity pants secure, discreetly and comfortably.

Frequent Snacks

Pregnancy and digestive problems go hand in hand. Nausea, heartburn, gas -- oh my! Eating smaller, more frequent meals can help keep digestive discomfort at bay. It also helped me to eat a little something, like these Oat Mama bars, before getting out of bed in the morning.

Preggie Pop Drops

I had terrible all-day sickness for half of my second pregnancy, and Preggie Pop Drops were a lifesaver. Anytime I started feeling really yucky I would suck on one and it helped take the sick edge off. They are especially great for when you’re on-the-go!

Sea Bands

These drug-free, reusable bands work through acupressure; you wear them on your wrists. I wore mine during my entire first trimester of my third pregnancy and found them to be tremendously helpful; I wish I had known about them during my nausea-filled second pregnancy!

Birthing Ball

Yes, this large ball is useful even before you go into labour. Sitting on an exercise ball for a bit, rolling your hips, and using it to stretch can help to relieve aches and pains. There are also lots of exercises you can use the ball for during your pregnancy to stay fit.

Prenatal Body Pillow

Sleep can be hard to come by when you're pregnant, so being as comfortable as possible when it’s time to rest is a must. I could not have survived any of my pregnancies without a prenatal body pillow.

Moving Your Body

Low-impact exercise, such as stretching, walking, swimming, and practicing yoga, can help relieve aches and pains, keep your spirits up, and contribute to an easier labour and delivery down the road. A triple win!
