MORMON WOMEN PIONEERS EXHIBITION

An Enduring Spirit: Mormon Women Pioneers, is an exhibition, integrating rare books, manuscripts and multimedia archives materials to tell the stories of Mormon women in Utah across generations and genres. The pioneering spirit of women such as Eliza R. Snow, Maud May Babcock, Ivy Baker Priest, Terry Tempest Williams and many others inspires current and future generations of Mormon and non-Mormon women.

UTAH RARE PLANT MEETING

This annual meeting is co-hosted with the Utah Native Plant Society. The purpose of the meeting is to provide a forum where professionals and plant enthusiasts alike can gather to exchange critical information, concerns and successes about Utah’s rare plant species. LIVING WELL WITH CHRONIC CONDITIONS WORKSHOP

FREE six-week self-management program designed to introduce skills needed for day-to-day management of chronic conditions. This course is specifically designed to help individuals develop the tools necessary for living a healthy life while managing the symptoms associated with chronic conditions.

Who: Anyone with a chronic illness or anyone who is taking care of someone with a chronic illness.

Why: If you or someone you love has a chronic illness, chances are you are aware that many symptoms can last for years. As there is often no cure, teaching people to manage the symptoms of an illness is key to helping them live fuller, happier lives.

Red Butte Garden

Learn how to lead public and private garden tours and serve as a program host for classes and workshops. Volunteers share their love and knowledge of plants and Red Butte Garden with others by leading private and public tours (walking and tram), answering visitor questions, hosting programs or acting as an ambassador for the Garden throughout the community.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older. Required training available in March. Garden guides must be able to comfortably walk/hike the Garden and work in a variety of weather conditions. Registration is required for training sessions and volunteering.

PIANO AMERICAN WEST SYMPHONY CONCERTO COMPETITION WINNERS

American West Orchestra, conducted by Joel Rosenberg, presents “A European Journey.” The program features “Fêtes” from Debussy’s Nocturnes and Schumann’s Symphony No. 2. The winner of American West Piano Concerto Competition takes center stage for Chopin’s Andante Spinianto et Polonaise Brillante for piano and orchestra by Chopin.

Faculty flutist Caitlyn Valovick-Moore, pianist Pamela Palmer Jones and bassist Denson Angulo present a refreshing program spanning centuries. The concert features C.P.E. Bach’s trio sonata, “Sanguineus et Melancholicus” (Sanguine and Melancholy), a masterpiece of the Empfindsamer style. The program also includes Claude Bolling’s Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio, a 20th century “crossover” composition that incorporates features of classical and jazz.

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN AN EXPERIMENTAL PAPER MAKING WORKSHOP

Handmade paper is a wonderful, lightweight material perfect for creating low relief and three-dimensional objects. Spend Friday placing embedded wire, string and reed between wet sheets of high-shrinkage abaca and return the next day to find it magically transformed into dry, structural paper shapes for building. Further manipulate the dry sheets into forms ranging from lamps and lanterns to sculptural wonders. Experiment with glue, thread, wire and other fasteners to craft unique paper objects to take home.

Over 40,000 Americans develop oral, head and neck cancer each year. Signs and symptoms include persistent sores in the mouth, trouble swallowing, voice change and growth or swelling in the mouth or neck. Early detection can save lives.

Huntsman Cancer Institute is holding a free oral cancer screening clinic coming up on April 4, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Patients will need to call 1-888-424-2100 and make an appointment.
