Despite its title, this book really doesn't fall into the Amish fiction genre. It was one I had been reading for review last week, and I really enjoyed it!
This book was one of those I didn't think I'd like when I opened it up but that I was so glad I had read as I continued. Although Amish fiction isn't my favorite genre, I picked this one because I was familiar with Susan Meissner's books and have enjoyed them in the past. But when I started the book and realized it was written in first person from the male character's perspective, I immediately began to regret my choice.
I do not particularly like first person stories. I've read some really good ones. But I've also read some not so good. And I especially don't like a first person book from a male perspective because I'm not a male. I can't think that way. So I was a little prejudiced against the book from page one.
But I kept reading- because it was a review and I felt obligated- and my opinion quickly changed. I was drawn into the story. Tyler is a great first person narrator. It didn't take me long to get into his story. The other characters were also compelling and interesting to get to know through Tyler's eyes.
I didn't regret picking it up at all. In fact, I really enjoyed the read. I give it four stars and a G for content.
