Despite record snowfalls in New York because #Snowzilla, New York Society of Association Executives proceeded with a sold-out attendance “Membership Summit” educational program on Jan. 27. Indiana Family Institute, Indiana Family Action and the American Family Association of Indiana added Columbus, Ind., and its Human Rights Commission to its lawsuit that challenges the legislative fix to last year’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act. That lawsuit initially was filed in late 2015. The plaintiff groups contend that the version of RFRA in effect does not protect their constitutionally held religious beliefs to oppose gay marriage.
International Association of Exhibitions and Events created a forum called Ask a Professional, which aims to help young professionals and those new to the industry. Individuals can ask questions anonymously. The question is reviewed by a member of the industry expert panel, who will provide a reply within three days. Experts include Laura Larson, CEM, senior exhibits specialist, Society for Human Resource Management; and Ann Loayza, CMP, conferences manager, and T.J. Mendieta, CEM, expo manager, International Facility Management Association.
International Economic Development Council and the Economic Developers Association of Canada signed a memorandum of understanding in which the two groups will share information, products and services, including professional development and certification opportunities. This includes accrediting each organization’s courses for respective members’ professional development recertification. The MOU also outlines mutual attendance and speaking roles in conferences and that EDAC members can access IEDC publications at the IEDC member rate. The MOU is committed for three years and will be reviewed for renewal in 2019.
Fabricators and Manufacturers Association acquired the media brands Canadian Metalworking and Canadian Fabricating & Welding from Annex Business Media. The brands will be part of FMA Communications Canada, a media subsidiary of FMA, which already delivers print and online products and sponsors in-person events in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. FMA’s existing Canadian brand, Canadian Industrial Machinery, will be transitioned into the two newly acquired brands.
