American Gem Society - Katherine Bodoh, from deputy executive director to CEO, effective March 1. She will succeed Ruth Batson who is retiring. Batson will stay on with the AGS through the end of May to ensure a smooth transition. Previously, Bodoh was a director at Jewelers Mutual Insurance Co. She began her career in association management at the Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America. Among the other jewelry associations she has served are the Women’s Jewelry Association Scholarship Fund board of trustees; the boards of the Wisconsin Jewelers Association and the JFC Fundraising Committee, and the Event Committee. She is involved in the Jewelers Leadership Forum and the US Jewelry Council, and ASAE. Bodoh earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Loyola University New Orleans.
Commercial Real Estate Women Network - Wendy Mann to CEO, and president of the CREW Network Foundation, effective Feb. 1. She was a SVP at NAIOP. Earlier she was communications VP at the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association.
National Grocers Association - Elizabeth Crocker to VP and executive director, NGA Research and Education Foundation. She was development and outreach senior director for SHAPE America. Earlier she was executive director, Foundation for Rural Service, the philanthropic arm of NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association. She has held staff positions in the U.S. Senate and federal agencies.
Research Chefs Association - Chip Potter to executive director, effective Jan. 9, from communications and information services VP, National Automatic Merchandising Association. RCA became a full-service management client of SmithBucklin in June. He succeeds Suzanne Bohle, who headed RCA through the Kellen association management company. Janet Rapp and Steve Bova have been interim executive directors. Previously, Potter was a marketing consultant at Tippin’s Homestyle Foods. Earlier, he worked at Dawn Food Products as marketing VP and also worked at Kraft Foods. He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing at Miami (Ohio) University and a master’s degree in marketing at DePaul University.
Arkansas Automobile Dealers Association - Greg Kirkpatrick to president, succeeding Dennis Jungmeyer, who was the association’s president for the past 38 years. He has held positions with former Gov. Mike Huckabee’s administration, including intergovernmental affairs director. He also was executive director of the Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission for 11 years. He serves as an administrative hearing officer for several state boards and commissions and was president of the National Association of Motor Vehicle Boards and Commissions from 2011 to 2014. He earned a master of public administration and a J.D. at the University of Arkansas.
Feeding Illinois - Matthew Coatar to executive director. He was with Feeding America for more than 10 years working on hunger relief. Most recently, he was involved with an organization that provided customer support for a technology solution dedicated to food banks.
Florida Municipal Electric Association - Amy Zubaly, deputy executive director of public affairs and strategic communications, to interim executive director. Former executive director Barry Moline left last month to become executive director, California Municipal Utilities Association.
Indiana Bankers Association - Amber Van Til from president to CEO. She joined IBA in 2002 as a lobbyist and was promoted several times. She was honored in 2015 as Association Professional of the Year by the Indiana Society of Association Executives, and in 2008 she won in the category of Banking & Financial Services for the Best & Brightest awards, sponsored by Junior Achievement of Central Indiana.
Michigan Association of Counties - Steve Currie from deputy director to executive director. He succeeds Timothy K. McGuire. Currie holds degrees from Hope College and Michigan State University and is involved extensively in Lansing-area philanthropy, aiding the Sparrow Foundation and St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, among others.
Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners - John Engelhardt to executive director, from marketing and advertising consultant for Pinnacle Entertainment/Belterra Park. Engelhardt served as the president of the Turf Publicists of America in 2009 and 2010 after being a VP of that organization for eight years. He has bred, owned or co-owned Ohio thoroughbreds for 10 years. The University of Dayton graduate began his career in the sport as a track photographer. From 1980 to 2002 he served as chief writer and photographer for the Ohio Thoroughbred Magazine.
Pennsylvania Medical Society - Martin Raniowski, from policy and program SVP to EVP. He also has served as the deputy secretary for health planning and assessment at the Pennsylvania Health Department. He succeeds Michael Fraser, who resigned in August to become executive director, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials in Washington.
Advanced Medical Technology Association - Greg Crist to public affairs EVP from SVP, American Health Care Association. Earlier he was strategic communications SVP for Dutko Worldwide/Grayling. From 2003 to 2005, Crist was communications director for the House Republican Conference. He also served as press secretary for former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas, and deputy communications director for former House Ways & Means Committee Chair Bill Archer (R-Texas).
Thurgood Marshall College Fund - Emily M. Dickens, J.D. to chief relationship officer from public policy VP and the executive director of the Center for Public Trusteeship and Governance at the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. She is a member of the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association, Advisory Board of the College of Arts and Sciences at North Carolina Central University and the North Carolina Bar.
National Association of Realtors - CEO Dale Stinton will retire in 2017. Chicago-based executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles will assist in the search for a successor. Stinton has been CEO since November 2005. Previously, he served as CFO and CIO since 1998 and was named acting CEO in 1996. Stinton will continue to serve as CEO until a successor is named, which is expected before the end of 2017.
Coal Trading Association - CTA and American Coal Council are considering a merger. Talks of a possible merger surfaced as the association looked to replace retiring executive director Bob McLean, who announced in early September he'd be stepping down from his position. About 70 percent of CTA members are also members of the ACC, officials said. CTA has heard a formal proposal from ACC officials. CTA board members said they hope the process to approve or deny a merger would be complete within the next six to eight weeks.
Some of the biggest names in the virtual reality industry - Google, HTC, Oculus, Samsung, Sony and Acer - have created the Global Virtual Reality Association, which aims to “unlock and maximize VR’s potential.” Valve, which makes the Steam store and SteamVR platform for the HTC Vive and others, is not a member, so a unified standard is likely not in the cards. No word on who will be chief executive.
National Association of Federal Credit Unions changed its name to the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions, effective Jan. 1. In September, NAFCU’s membership approved the board’s unanimous recommendation to amend the association’s articles of incorporation to give federally-insured, state-chartered members full membership. NAFCU’s logo and acronym will stay the same to preserve the association’s brand recognition.
