Now that Common Core has been rolled out and teachers, parents and even some students are realizing its pitfalls, failures, and long list of problems the cries from tea party groups, Christians and concerned educators who actually knew what was coming, much like the ObamaCare scenario rollout, are being joined by voices from some unexpected places, including groups from the left. But on the other side, amazingly with all the information on this program there are still millions of parents, grandparents and Americans in general who have no idea what Common Core is and how it will affect their children and the America’s future.
Our kids are already not competitive globally and after Common Core no one will want to hire someone educated in America!! Heck, many of our kids can’t even make change.

s it any wonder that, as Michael Snyder notes, our high school students are as dumb as rock, failing to answer the most basic of questions? A study conducted by none other than Common Core shows just how far we’ve fallen at America’s pedagogic institutions:
Only 60% of students knew that WWI was fought between 1900 and 1950 — they only had to guess the half century!
One in four high schoolers think Columbus discovered the New World after 1750
On the multiple choice test, less than half of high schoolers knew when the Civil War was fought. They didn’t even need to know exact dates, just that it was sometime between 1850 and 1900.
40% of students could not identify the name of the ocean on the eastern side of the United States.
Nearly 60% of students could not identify the two major political parties.
When asked who is in charge of the Executive Branch of the United States, 70% of high school students got the wrong answer.
Fully 75% of high school students failed to identify the First President of the United States
In a video by Lunch Scholars, American high school students were asked to answer a series of common questions covering topics such as American history, geography, and politics.
In which war did our country win its independence?
Who is the Vice President?
Which countries border the U.S.?
How many stars on the flag of the United States?

Pedophilia, Incest, and Graphic Sex: Excerpts from a Common Core Reading List Book for 11th-Graders That Will Make You Blush

Common Core, the controversial set of education standards being pushed by many state governors and education leaders, is (finally) coming under fire for its selection of a book that’s on the suggested reading list for 11th graders (i.e. 16- and 17-year-olds). The book — a past selection of Oprah’s Book Club — has graphic sex scenes and descriptions that are likely to make you blush.
Morrison’s first novel – Notice it is an Oprah Book Club Selection… wonder if she gives it to her girls that she mentors?!?
The work in question comes from Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison. Listed on a Common Core reading list linked on the website, “The Bluest Eye (Kindle)” carries this description from the curriculum’s preferred bookseller: An Eleven-Year-Old African-American Girl In Ohio, In The Early 1940s, Prays For Her Eyes To Turn Blue So That She Will Be Beautiful.
That description sounds tame and appears to be a solid lesson about the problems of desiring beauty over anything else. And if you read the Common Core website, here’s an excerpt from the 11th grade exemplar text:
One winter Pauline discovered she was pregnant. When she told Cholly, he surprised her by being pleased. He began to drink less and come home more often. They eased back into a relationship more like the early days of their marriage, when he asked if she were tired or wanted him to bring her something from the store. In this state of ease, Pauline stopped doing day work and returned to her own housekeeping. But the loneliness in those two rooms had not gone away. When the winter sun hit the peeling green paint of the kitchen chairs, when the smoked hocks were boiling in the pot, when all she could hear was the truck delivering furniture downstairs, she thought about back home, about how she had been all alone most of the time then too, but that this lonesomeness was different. Then she stopped staring at the green chairs, at the delivery truck; she went to the movies instead. There in the dark her memory was refreshed, and she succumbed to her earlier dreams. Along with the idea of romantic love, she was introduced to another—physical beauty. Probably the most destructive ideas in the history of human thought. Both originated in envy, thrived in insecurity, and ended in disillusion. In equating physical beauty with virtue, she stripped her mind, bound it, and collected self-contempt by the heap. She forgot lust and simple caring for. She regarded love as possessive mating, and romance as the goal of the spirit. It would be for her a well-spring from which she would draw the most destructive emotions, deceiving the lover and seeking to imprison the beloved, curtailing freedom in every way.
Keep in mind, that is an excerpt, selected by Common Core. And when they publish these online, they are accompanied by this statement: (emphasis added)
When excerpts appear, they serve only as stand-ins for the full text. The Standards require that students engage with appropriately complex literary and informational works; such complexity is best found in whole texts rather than passages from such texts.
Again, when you read the selected passage, a couple of things stand out — Morrison’s powerful command of the written word cannot be denied and the story appears to teach that over-the-top devotion to physical beauty is “one of the most destructive ideas in the history of human thought.” But the snippet posted above is just the excerpt presented online for teachers and interested parents to peruse and doesn’t mention what else is between the pages.
What else is in there? Simply: The the entire book has numerous questionable sexual sections that may not be appropriate for minors.
Macey France, a writer for the online site Politichicks, actually combed the entire text of “The Bluest Eye (Kindle)” and catalogued some of the more offensive and questionable parts. And they are graphic:
Pages 84-85: “He must enter her surreptitiously, lifting the hem of her nightgown only to her navel. He must rest his weight on his elbows when they make love, to avoid hurting her breasts…When she senses some spasm about to grip him, she will make rapid movements with her hips, press her fingernails into his back, suck in her breath, and pretend she is having an orgasm. She might wonder again, for the six hundredth time, what it would be like to have that feeling while her husband’s penis is inside her.”
Pages 130-131: “Then he will lean his head down and bite my t** . . . I want him to put his hand between my legs, I want him to open them for me. . . I stretch my legs open, and he is on top of me…He would die rather than take his thing out of me. Of me. I take my fingers out of his and put my hands on his behind…”
Pages 148-149: “With a violence born of total helplessness, he pulled her dress up, lowered his trousers and underwear. ‘I said get on wid it. An’make it good, n*****, Come on c***. Faster. You ain’t doing nothing for her.’ He almost wished he could do it—hard, long, and painfully, he hated her so much.”
Pages 162-163: “A bolt of desire ran down his genitals…and softening the lips of his anus. . . . He wanted to f*** her—tenderly. But the tenderness would not hold. The tightness of her vagina was more than he could bear. His soul seemed to slip down his guts and fly out into her, and the gigantic thrust he made into her then provoked the only sound she made. Removing himself from her was so painful to him he cut it short and snatched his genitals out of the dry harbor of her vagina. She appeared to have fainted.”
Page 174: “He further limited his interests to little girls. They were usually manageable . . . His sexuality was anything but lewd; his patronage of little girls smacked of innocence and was associated in his mind with cleanliness.” And later, this same pedophile notes, “I work only through the Lord. He sometimes uses me to help people.”
Page 181: “The little girls are the only things I’ll miss. Do you know that when I touched their sturdy little t*** and bit them—just a little—I felt I was being friendly?—If I’d been hurting them, would they have come back? . . . they’d eat ice cream with their legs open while I played with them. It was like a party.”
Those six graphic excerpts cover incest, rape and pedophilia. In her research on the book in question, Macey France also exposes some pretty shocking support for those topics, from the author herself:
In fact, the author of the book, Morrison, says that she wanted the reader to feel as though they are a “co-conspirator” with the rapist. She took pains to make sure she never portrayed the actions as wrong in order to show how everyone has their own problems. She even goes as far as to describe the pedophilia, rape and incest “friendly,” “innocent,” and “tender.” It’s no wonder that this book is in the top 10 list of most contested books in the country.
The presence of the book on Common Core’s list, combined with Morrison’s descriptions of incest, rape, and pedophilia as “friendly,” “innocent,” and “tender” have sparked outrage in some communities. Parents in one Colorado school district are petitioning for the removal of “developmentally inappropriate and graphical content from the instructional reading list.” They are not asking for the book to be banned or even removed from the library, just taken off the suggested reading list.

Ms. France also cites a 2011 Harris poll on the banning of books and limiting of certain types of books in school libraries. In that poll, Harris showed:
83% say children should be able to get The Holy Bible
76% support access to books that discuss evolution from school libraries
62% say books with explicit language should not be available to children in school libraries.
With an overwhelming majority of parents supporting restricting – but not banning – young student’s access to books with explicit or questionable content, should Common Core pull this book from it’s list of exemplars?

Conventional wisdom held that liberals and pretty much all teachers supported the new Common Core curriculum standards, that is until the Badass Teachers Association crashed the party, BATS.
The 25,000 BATs, as they call themselves, are pushing back against the national standards with Twitter strikes, town hall meetings and snarky Internet memes. They have no qualms with the theory behind the new benchmarks, but they fear the larger movement places too much emphasis on testing and will stifle creativity in the classroom.
"It’s not just the tea party that’s skeptical of the Common Core, (anymore)" said Bonnie Cunard, a Fort Myers teacher who manages the Facebook page for the 1,200 Florida BATs. "We on the left, like the folks on the right, are saying we want local control."
The BATs represent a new wave of liberal opposition to the Common Core standards, which includes some union leaders, progressive activists and Democratic lawmakers. They are joining forces with tea party groups and libertarians, who want states like Florida to slow down efforts to adopt the new benchmarks and corresponding tests.
They face an uphill battle. The Common Core standards have a strong base of support that includes Democrats and Republicans. What’s more, the standards are being taught across all grade levels in Florida.

"Our commitment (to the Common Core) is strong because it is the best decision for the future of our state and most importantly, the future of our students," interim state Education Commissioner Pam Stewart wrote in a statement.
The Common Core State Standards — and the controversy surrounding them — were discussed at Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s education summit in Clearwater. They have been approved in 45 states and in the District of Columbia.
Supporters say the new benchmarks will raise expectations for children nationwide by encouraging critical and analytical thinking, while allowing for a comparison of student performance across state lines. But in reality it does pretty much the opposite in most cases. Which is adds fire to the flame, causing tea party groups and libertarians, to consider the initiative a far overreach of the federal government.

Critics on the left have different qualms.
"The liberal critique of Common Core is that this is a huge profit-making enterprise that costs school districts a tremendous amount of money, and pushes out the things kids love about school, like art and music," said Mark Naison, a professor at Fordham University in New York and co-founder of the Badass Teacher Association.

A long time high school English teacher writes: A Monstrous Story for a Monstrous Curriculum: The Ugly Heart of Common Core She writes about a specific assignment that she is required to teach that is a pro-abortion, dehumanizing lesson.
Today I was in a professional development session for my school district. Our school system has swallowed the Common Core curriculum whole. Why wouldn’t they? The federal system has said that it is “voluntary”, but “voluntary” means that the district gets cut off from major federal funding if it does not adopt the standards, so “voluntary” is subjective.

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Common Core, it is a curriculum created in the private sector but pushed onto states by the federal government and endorsed by Bill Gates. The cost of implementing the program runs from millions to billions depending on the state. It is untested and unresearched. It has been criticized for being not as rigorous as proponents claim, clearly biased to a liberal perspective, so much so that many see it as indoctrination, and it is being forced on the states in spite of the fact that a federal curriculum is unconstitutional violating the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution which established the principle that“…the “power” to oversee education belongs to the states. This longstanding principle of local control of education is reiterated throughout our laws and government codes.”

Here is what the Washington Post reported Sen. Charles Grassley has to say about Common Core:
Current federal law makes clear that the U.S. Department of Education may not be involved in setting specific content standards or determining the content of state assessments. Nevertheless, the selection criteria designed by the U.S. Department of Education for the Race to the Top Program provided that for a state to have any chance to compete for funding, it must commit to adopting a “common set of K-12 standards” matching the description of the Common Core.

If there ever was a time for parents, grandparents, neighbors, the religious community and patriotic Americans to band together around a central cause this is it!! Education to make us competitive as a nation and as individuals that represents our values and presents our history in an honest and non-biased way and enables people to think for themselves in a critical and analytical way is not asking too much, but unfortunately the public school system has failed us for decades and has been co-opted by the Progressive left for their agenda, starting in the 1960’s. And Common Core puts their agenda into place at the core of our educational system in 45 states and in the District of Columbia.
The designing of Common Core has been long in the planning and the wording to describe the program in an acceptable way to parents and others who are not engaged in what is going on in our schools sounds positive and hopeful, until you really dig in and see what is being taught. Every American needs to get involved, look over the textbooks and materials, visit or volunteer your local schools and school boards and demand answers to your questions. If you have kids in school look over all the material that comes home and share it with others who don’t readily have access or aren’t aware this is going on. And if you can… get your children out of the public school system, it s a national disgrace and an indoctrination factory.
If you can afford private school, religious or otherwise, that is a good viable option, but check out their curriculum, beliefs and criteria as well. And for those who cannot afford private school, home-schooling is your best option. Home-schooling parents have support like never before and many areas have activity groups to round out your students’ social and athletic education and interests. Many people feel there is no way that they can afford, either the money or the time, or that they don’t have the ability to homeschool. But there are options and support!
Homeschooling Options and Thoughts:
A neighborhood can start a co-op homeschool, where each household or participant takes one day to teach or lead the activities.
Homeschooling does not have to take place during traditional school hours.
Grandparents, aunts and uncles, or retired teacher friends and family make great home-school teacher alternatives to working parents.
In some households, one parent works days and another works evenings or nights to cover both the childcare and homeschooling schedules, or one parent works from home.
Often with schedule changes, one parent can cut back their working hours or even quit.
For those who think they do not have the ability to homeschool, there are associations, parent groups, online curriculums and even whole online academic school programs (but again… check out what is being taught) available these days.
Reading, writing, arithmetic, your values, ‘true’ American history, and the ability to question and reason using a process of critical thinking are the most important and basic teaching points. Take a look at some of the local, state and national spelling and science competitions; many of the winners are homeschooled.
You can often participate in a local kids science and music programs, have parents with interesting jobs come to speak or teach once a week, enroll your kids in a local sports program, dance or gymnastic lessons or children’s theatre group, and have a friend, neighbor or family member teach a foreign language that can be supplemented with and online program.
Many homeschoolers participate or start a social co-ops where the parents or teacher… whoever they are, can interact and share ideas, materials and curriculum, the students build a core of friends and as a group they work together on projects, take field trips and organize sports, arts and even debate teams. And some do public service or organize fund raisers to take trips to local presidential libraries and historical sites, events that interest their group or even to Washington D.C.
Many parents who are in the transition or are still in the information gathering phase (don’t take too long… once seeds are planted in your kids’ heads, they are there forever) are turning off their TV’s; monitoring and limiting their kids’ electronics; enacting a ‘no electronic’ family night; reading their children’s textbooks and helping them choose which books on the suggested reading lists to read; enrolling their kids in a variety of extracurricular activities (not just sports) that require them to interact with other kids, develop new interests and take them away from the electronics; and many are going back to church and planning more family get-togethers where family history is shared as an activity. Some people are sending their kids to Patriot Camp (or organizing one) or to a religious camp as one of their summer activities to balance what is being taught in their schools or what is constantly being put in front on them on TV, their computer and even on their phones. And others are moving their kids’ computer(s) to a common area where it can be monitored, severely limiting their online time and even taking away their kids’ cell phones… Did I hear a gasp out there? In a recent study, it was proven that kids who studied with a paper, pencil and from notes scored higher than those who used a computer to study… something to think about.
Parenting is joyful and rewarding on the one hand but can be tough and requires discipline and sacrifice on the other. Too many Americans have left the raising of their children to a system run by people that have very different agendas that they do. The time to change that and get involved is now!!!
