As one of the very few truly open air rooftop bars and restaurants in Jakarta, since opening in December 2011, Lucy in the Sky has become an instant hit with the younger urbanites of Jakarta. The quirky format is themed around an eco-friendly policy with a decor comprising almost totally of an eclectic assemblage of recycled old furniture, set amongst luxuriant gardens that include some plantings that are used as ingredients by the kitchen for the meals. Occupying an expansive space on the second floor rooftop of the refurbished Fairgrounds complex in the expanding SCBD area of central Jakarta, Lucy in the Sky attracts as a casual and relaxed hang-out venue, with keenly priced drink and food menus, and DJs playing chill-out and funky tunes. With a name that references one of the famous songs of The Beatles- “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”- Lucy in the Sky seems to have hit the right notes with the partying and younger social set in Jakarta.
The low-level rooftop setting for Lucy in the Sky gives the space a “tree top” outlook on the surrounding office towers of the SCBD business zone. The rooftop is completely open air except for a glass topped, pitched-roof construction that houses the bar, kitchen and lounge space. Across the large open, concrete paved terrace areas are a series of table settings with large extendable awnings set into metal frames for protection from rain. The outdoor furniture consists mostly of rudimentary tables of recycled wood, with metal frame and timber chairs. A number of old wrought iron day beds are placed under the trees at one end for the more intimate relaxation. Under the glass roofed section, furniture ranges from retro molded plastic chairs and tables, to 60′s style sofas and fabric upholstered chairs, and with a long curving, double sided banquette extending down the middle of the space.

The kitchen at Lucy in the Sky offers a wide selection of both snacks, main dishes and desserts. Popular snacks include “Cheeky Monkey”- deep fried Golden Banana served with Nutella; and “Sticky Fingers”- deep fried mozzarella cheese and breadcrumbs. Main dishes include both local Indonesian and Western cuisines- ”Spinach Pocket”- home made pasta served with mushroom sauce; “Lamb Rack with Sour & Spicy sauce”- NZ grill lamb rack with sauteed baby rosemary potatoes and veggies; and the local favourite- “Nasi Jeruk”- see photo below. Desserts feature cakes such as the “Lucy Cake” and “Hummingbird”.
The beverages at Lucy in the Sky includes a large selection of mocktails and cocktails, plus beers, wines, premium spirits, and soft drinks. Cocktails are well priced at around Rp95k, with mocktails priced from Rp45k.
