The Senior Manager will report to the President of the GM Foundation and Director of GM Global Philanthropy and Corporate Giving\. As an integral member of this team, the Senior Manager will work in a very fast\-paced environment and deal extensively with internal global contacts within the organization as well as external partners and various community organizations\. The individual will be required to implement an aggressive strategic plan for successfully achieving specific results with regard to various philanthropic activities, which are favorable to the interests of General Motors\. The ideal candidate will have a high level of initiative, tact and professionalism\.

This role manages General Motor’s Corporate Giving programming and global philanthropic giving\. Individual will execute strategic priorities and identify key giving strategies as well as policies and procedures to deliver stated objectives\. Additionally, the individual will need to work across regions to responsibly transition existing programs towards new strategic priorities and implement new programming as needed\. The role will also be a key owner for existing corporate giving programs \(such as dollars for doers, American Red Cross, Safe Kids, United Way, etc\.\), managing and executing these programs on a global basis\.

This person serves as a key corporate giving representative for The General Motors Company with its global communities, driving and coordinating all community relations activities, including charitable contributions, company campaigns, and outreach efforts\.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

30% Establish and maintain General Motor’s Global Giving and Engagement Strategies

+ Manage the development of a Corporate Philanthropic strategy, establishing clear priorities and key programs that achieve strategic objectives\.
+ Evaluate current philanthropic structure, benchmarking against industry best practices, and make recommendations for future program structure\.
+ Work in conjunction with General Motor’s global markets and others in CSR to identify strategic philanthropic opportunities, review giving and engagement alignment and make recommendations to ensure all programs achieve above stated strategies\.
+ Review and analyze global community relations initiatives and make recommendations for increased alignment and continued progress\.
+ Evaluate corporate giving philosophy and mechanics, best\-in\-class programs and procedures and determine if structural and or operational changes are needed\.

30% Manage General Motors Company’s Global Giving Program

+ Manage all aspects of the company’s community relations programs including goodwill advertising, product donations, community events, and represent General Motors with community organizations\.
+ Manage the review and research of all incoming requests for cash contributions\. Determine responses and grant levels when required\. Conduct interviews and/or site visits of charitable organizations seeking funding, making judgments on the basis of worthiness, contributions policies and practices, interest to the company or local plant community, and advice of senior management or other company personnel\. Coordinate the communications with requesting organizations, advising of contribution or regrets\.
+ Manage General Motor’s contributions and community\-related activities to ensure compliance with IRS and budget limits\. Provide support and guidance to regional managers, key customer accounts and plant managers on contribution recommendations within their regional or plant communities\.
+ Direct Consumer Relations function in preparing rejection notices for cash and product contributions on behalf of the Corporate Contributions Department\.
+ Continually review and revise where appropriate existing formal and informal global guidelines and policies relating to cash and product donations, the Buick Achievers Program and United Way Employee Gift Match\. Recommend and implement changes as required\.
+ Provide clear communication regarding these programs both internally and externally, including oral and written communication with members of the Executive Leadership Team and GM Foundation Board of Directors\.
+ Work with grants management software and external vendors to produce trend reports on philanthropic giving programs\.

25% Direct General Motor’s Signature Programs

Develop and maintain policies, procedures, guidelines and budget for each program, providing successful and fair benefits programs to all eligible employees and retirees\.

+ United Way: Serve as primary staff support to the campaign leadership teams, providing programming expertise and guidance on upcoming campaign timing, elements and enhancements\.
+ The General Motors Company Buick Achievers Scholars Program: Communicate details of the program to all employees worldwide by developing, printing and distributing a brochure and application\. Promote additional information via electronic and hard copy announcements\. Direct Scholarship America in policy and procedure\.
+ Community Grants: Manage the execution and overall process to expand globally\.

15% Manage the Corporate Social Responsibility Budget

+ Develop and manage annual budgets for corporate giving\. Manage the financial operations and track and communicate contributions and other transactions compared to budget\. Ensure monthly budgeted amounts are utilized according to plan\. Adjust costs to manage budget cuts when necessary\.
+ Work with Tax and Controller’s Departments to ensure proper documentation and accounting of all contribution transactions for IRS reporting purposes\.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:

+ Experience in philanthropy, nonprofit management, foundation operations and management including knowledge of a diverse range of philanthropic structures and vehicles
+ Strong understanding of grants management and administration including conducting program and financial due diligence as well as international grant making
+ Interpersonal skills – ability to deal with people at all levels\.
+ Negotiation and excellent project leadership and management skills
+ Attention to detail – ability to plan, organize and carry out multiple tasks in an integrated and smooth manner
+ Tact, discretion, excellent judgment and customer service\. Ability to politely decline grant seekers courteously while maintaining the company’s goodwill\.
+ Advocate for continuous improvement

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

+ Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related experience\. Master's Degree preferred\.
+ Experience: Minimum five years of progressive experience in, corporate giving or related area\. Work experience should include global planning and budgeting responsibilities and project leadership within the function or department\.
