Job Description & Qualifications Ford Motor Company is expanding research and engineering activities in the fields of Automated and Autonomous Driving. The Research Scientist on the Automated Driving team will design algorithms and develop software for next generation automated driving systems. This position will include design and implementation of general purpose and embedded software. Candidates for consideration will be responsible for supporting research and developmental efforts in automated vehicle technologies ranging from Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to semi- and fully-autonomous driving capabilities.

Position Duties:
* Design and develop state-of-the-art software for next generation automated driving systems
* Design and carry out execution of data collection experiments, data labeling tool development, and automated learning or performance evaluation
* Manage full lifecycle of high performance embedded software for sensor processing applications (e.g., trade studies; specifications and requirements; software design, prototyping, and implementation; system testing)
* Support system engineering teams during platform bring-up and test
* Present designs, challenges, experiments, and results with excellent written and oral communications skills
Basic Qualifications:

* Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering WITH 4+ years of experience in degree fieldOR

* PhD Candidacy or Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
AND

* 4+ years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering degree field with a focus on computer vision, robotics, machine learning, or artificial intelligence
* 4+ years of experience developing C, C++, or Java in a professional or PhD position
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience developing cutting-edge algorithms for computer vision or robotic perception
* Experience developing custom software libraries for infrastructure and machine perception
* Experience with sensor systems such as camera, LIDAR, RADAR
* Experience developing sensor drivers or model fitting for sensor calibration
* Experience quantitatively evaluating algorithm performance, demonstrated via peer-reviewed journal or conference publications, or technical reports
* Strong foundation in linear algebra
* Experience with C/C++/Java, gcc, ld, ar, make, bash, gdb, valgrind
* Experience developing software for efficient execution using Intel SSE/AVX, ARM NEON, NVIDIA CUDA, and/or related optimizations
* Experience developing custom hardware for sensor data processing or acquisition
* Experience with software version control systems (git or svn)
* Experience with inter-process communication (e.g. LCM)
* Proficiency in multiple operating systems such as Linux, UNIX, and Windows
* Experience with scripting languages such as Bash or python
