Last weekend’s Young Eye Surgeons (YES) Advanced Cataract Training (ACT) in Denver was a great success. Attendees experienced an intensive weekend training program that included didactic/video case presentations, a hands-on wet lab, and roundtable discussion breakout sessions. The meeting was designed for residents, fellows and surgeons in their first five years of practice.

Program chairs for YES ACT included Terry Kim, MD, chair of the ASCRS Cornea Clinical Committee; Elizabeth Yeu, MD, chair of the ASCRS YES Committee. Members of the programming committee included Richard Davidson, MD; Zachary Zavodni, MD; and Charles Weber, MD.

YES ACT attendees were excited about using the cutting-edge equipment in the wet lab, as well as meeting with some of the top ophthalmologists in the world in an intimate roundtable setting where they could ask questions, and benefit from their knowledge and experience.

“The entire meeting has been excellent,” says Anjali Tapadia, MD, a resident at Louisiana State University in New Orleans. “The wet labs were the best part. I had a chance to practice some of the techniques I had learned and heard about that we don’t necessarily get to practice as residents.”

“I really enjoyed the roundtable discussions,” says Mina Farahani, MD, a third-year resident at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, Illinois. “I thought it was great to have that small of an environment and to be able to ask the experts questions and run cases past them to see what their thoughts were.”
