Former Pakistan test cricketer and the member of the newly appointed selection committee, Tauseef Ahmed has said that Umar Gul should focus on his performance rather than giving statements.

Umar Gul recently stated in an interview that he was surprised for not being selected for the 2015 World Cup, he also told that it disheartens him when people consider and treat him like a discarded players. He urged selectors to deal his case with the same attention as others.

Inzamam Ul Haq avoided to comment on Gul’s statements, but, the Tauseef Ahmed didn’t hold back, he said, “Gul shouldn’t be giving statement, rather focusing on his cricket and keep on performing.”

“Cricket season has just started and he shouldn’t be disheartened as there are a lot of series ahead and it’s not just about Gul but every player, who didn’t make into the Test side,” Tauseef added.

The member of selection committee further stated that it is impossible to select all the players at one and he quoted Junaid Khan as an example, “Junaid Khan is the other bowler who was left out and he along with Gul was also in contention. But we have our reasons, which are not unfair, and the selected bunch was the best we could possibly pick according the conditions and competition.”

Tauseef Ahmed said that the selection committee will look to give everyone a chance and will not keep any deserving cricketer out of the side, “We will make sure everyone gets a fair chance and we have a lot of cricket ahead and we will continue to monitor the performances of players.”

“Gul and Junaid might have missed out but they are still our asset and part of our country’s cricket.

They should continue with their cricket and keep on performing in domestic cricket,”

“One must talk with his performance in the ground and that should be a talking point. Journalists should be making noise for player rather than player himself,” Tauseef concluded.
