RDC Youth, the Midlands-based professional contemporary dance company, is one of only 18 youth dance groups from the UK selected to perform at the first ever Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in Glasgow in July 2014.

Hosted by YDance  the festival will bring together youth dance groups from all over the world including Australia, Canada, England, India, Malta, Namibia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

RDC Youth will perform a piece called PHENIX which the company has been touring round the West Midlands since the beginning of 2014.

Adam Rutherford, Artistic Director said: "RDC Youth recently celebrated its first anniversary and I am thrilled this exciting news comes at the end of an already successful year. This is a fitting endorsement for the company's hard work and commitment and as their Artistic Director I'm extremely proud of all the young dancers who enthusiastically travel from across the Midlands to rehearse and perform with RDC Youth.

“We look forward to representing Birmingham and its youth dance scene at this international youth dance festival. It truly is an exciting time for all involved in RDC Youth."

At the festival the company will perform alongside 400 other young people, giving local, national and international audiences the chance to see some of the best youth dance talent the Commonwealth has to offer.

They will also participate in a programme of workshops and creative sessions facilitated by national and international dance specialists.

Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “This is fantastic news for RDC Youth. The company is supported by investment from the National Lottery through our Grants for the arts programme and provides aspiring professional dancers from the Midlands with access to training, development and performance opportunities. The Youth Dance Festival will be a great event for these young dancers to showcase their talent and skill on an international stage and I wish them all the best for July.”
