How does Outfitted & Equipped work? The FAQ.

Gentlemen, Old Man Winter is coming (and his cold temps already arrived for much of the country this week!). Getting ready to brave the elements right outside your window, while at the same time, attempting to dress sharp enough for a professional office, can be a daunting task. Why can’t I just stay in my cozy (yet well-fitting) sweatpants and thick cable-knit sweater? Why do I have to go into the office today at all?!

Sadly, most of you won’t have the luxury of working from home during the dark and dreary months. Never fear. Let’s keep you well-dressed and on top of your game, and most importantly, equipped to handle the cold, gray, windy mess you’re about to face when you walk out the door.

1. The Getup. Indochino Essential Gray Suit. You can’t go wrong with a basic, medium-gray suit; it works for practically any situation in which you may need to dress up, the office being one of them.

2. The Button-up. Indochino Red Mini Pinstripe. I know you love that blue gingham shirt, but how about we let it hibernate for the next few months and swap it with this shirt instead. While the red pinstripe can work any time of year, this pattern and color combination is much more seasonally-appropriate.

3. The Belt. Cole Haan Dress Veg (Reversible). This handsome-looking belt does double-duty: one side works for your dark brown leathers, and the other, for your lighter browns. Not a bad piece to own.

4. The Necktie. Tie Bar Knitted Chocolate. I love knit ties. You can’t beat the interesting texture and the simplicity of it. This dark brown version will pair nicely with the red mini pinstripe and your medium-gray suit.

5. The Footwear. Karnes Cap Toe Boot. Dress shoes with smooth leather soles can be a nightmare in the winter, especially when dealing with snow and ice on the ground. This cap toe boot will look great with the suit you’re wearing, keep your ankles warm, and because of its lugged rubber sole, prevent you from slipping and sliding on your way to the office.

6. The Socks. Charles Tyrwhitt Burgundy Herringbone. You’re not wearing black dress socks exclusively still, are you? If so, branch out a bit and add some color below the knee. It doesn’t have to be garish or overly eye-catching, you just want to show that you’ve put some thought into the little details.

7. The Coat. Banana Republic Camel Wool Topcoat. That suit alone won’t keep you very warm. You need a coat that will not only insulate you, but will protect your suit from the elements. Oh, and it should look great and fit well. This topcoat should do the trick.

8. The Scarf. Zara Checked Scarf. Most of your outfit is subtle and subdued. Punch up your color palette a bit with this bright checked scarf. It’s long enough to be tied in a variety of ways, and is flexible enough to go with both work and casual outfits.

9. The Heater. Zippo Hand Warmer. If the temperatures drop down low enough, you’ll appreciate having this handy device to warm your fingers.

10. The Ear Protection. Degrees by 180s Fleece Ear Warmers. Here’s another one of those things that come in handy when the temperatures drop and the winds pick up. A pair in black fleece will do the job well.

11. The Gloves. ASOS Leather Gloves. Simple, brown leather gloves. I’m not one to spend a lot on gloves, considering all they’ll have gone through once spring rolls around. Not to mention, they’re easy to lose. If you feel the same way, these should do the trick.

12. The Briefcase. Linjer Soft Briefcase. Briefcases are one of those things you shouldn’t have to replace very frequently. Find one of quality, and it will last you years. If you’re like me and carry around a laptop plus a few smaller items, this briefcase from Linjer should work perfectly.
