There's even an Asian gallery with works from classical Chinese furniture to Ch'ing dynasty silk textiles. The new media and photography wing is also a breathtaking collection of works from over 800 photographers, featuring over 11,500 pieces. From documentary work to pictorialism, this collection is great for the realist in all of us. The museum has an extensive map that can help you plan your visit, which can last all day if you want to see everything. Before you go make sure to check out their website to see if there are any special events taking place. For adults, the best time to visit is the third Thursday of each month, where you can experience specialized programs, live music and beverages during your visit.

Chain of Lakes

Head outside the city to experience the natural elements that are notorious in Minneapolis. Just above Uptown is the Chain of Lakes, featuring four connected bodies of water: Lake Harriet, Lake Calhoun, Cedar Lake and Lake of the Water. If you visit during the Spring or Summer, this is definitely the place to be. There's local hiking and biking trails that connect the lakes and allow you to take in some breathtaking scenery. If you aren't from the area and didn't bring a water vessel, there are boat rentals for the adventurer in you. If you decide to head out during the winter, these trails double as cross-country ski paths and the frozen lakes open for ice skating. It's one of the most beautiful areas in Minneapolis and definitely worth a day trip in any season.

Mall of America

The largest shopping center in the U.S is more than just retail, it's entertainment. Located right near the airport,  there's a wedding chapel, 18-hole miniature golf, and more. The Mall features the tallest indoor water park in the U.S, with a slide tower over ten-stories high. From tube rides to a wave pool, there's something for everyone in your family. If you prefer to stay dry there's also an amusement park with over 24 rides, including numerous scream-inducing roller coasters. The prices on both parks are reasonable and it's a great way to escape from inclement weather. Minnesota Sea Life is also located inside: the state's largest aquarium. Your kids will love that they can even touch some of the sea animals – including a shark. You can easily spend up to a day exploring, but you may need a weekend just to see all of what the Mall of America offers.

Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and Cowles Conservatory

For the nature lover in your group, a visit to the 11-acre, Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is a must-see activity. Featuring many contemporary works, the Garden connects to nearby Loring Park by a sculpture foot-bridge. The Cowles Conservatory is also on the grounds, a greenhouse featuring an abundance of exotic flowers. You can unwind on a summer day with a picnic on the grounds or walk through the garden after a dinner date downtown. It's a breathtaking oasis in the center of the city.
