Why Do Queen Ants Live Longer?

How long do ants live? This is a question several people are asking themselves every moment they think about ants. Ants are very interesting insects of different genres with variance from species to species. There are two categories of ants; the queen ants and the worker ants. The queen ants live longer than the worker ants, even up to 30 years while the work ants live for a few months or years.

Ants can develop into Queens giving them a new life and hence the longer life. An existence of an ant queen discourages the development of another queen and hence the shorter life of the worker ants. However, the ageing process of the queen slowly turns the worker ants to full activity mode to begin a quest of developing queens to replace the ageing one. A worker ant cannot extend its life beyond two years.
