Hammered incessantly by the media for his signing of the injured Swedish midfielder Kim Kallstrom, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger continued to be a study of calm as he explained the logic behind his decision making, and as an Arsenal fan for life, all we can continue to say is Wenger knows best.

Wenger shared that he was aware of Kallstrom’s injury, but also added that it was not earth-shattering, and is even one that a player can play with if absolutely necessary. The legendary Arsenal boss said, “[Being fit at the end of February] is the best-case scenario. I’m sure if you have played football you might have played with a micro-fracture of your vertebra without even noticing it because on a normal scan you don’t find out. He might play before that [the end of February] but he might play as well later.”

For the comfort of those Arsenal fans who worry about being fleeced, the Arsenal boss also shared that the Gunners would only pick up Kallstrom’s wages when he regains match fitness and till then, Spartak Moscow will continue to pay him his weekly salary.

Wenger also shared that he still isn’t sure he will use Kallstrom at all this season, but was equally comfortable stating that he hoped that the veteran Swede will bring something useful to the Gunners during his time at Arsenal and will be in a position to contribute to the club sooner rather than later.

Wenger said, “There is a possibility [that he may not play] but as well there is the possibility that he scores us the winning goal that might be vitally important. At some stage in our job you have to make a decision. Are you wrong or right? You will only know at the end of the season. I made this decision because, since the start of the season, all our central midfielders have missed a part of the season – whether it’s Flamini, Wilshere, Arteta, Chamberlain or Cazorla. All of them have had injuries and it can happen that a few of them miss the next part [of the season] together.”

Wenger also said that the recurrence of Aaron Ramsey’s injury forced his hand in the market to look for a midfielder, and he was pleased to have acquired the services of someone like Kallstrom, who could prove very handy in the title run in.
