Good morning! Rough morning. I stayed up too late to watch election returns. Now, I'm off to wait in line to get gas before work. Here is your Kansas City Chiefs news. Enjoy!

Chiefs' Decision To Release Routt Baffles His Agent from KC Star

Though he was often targeted by the opposition and surrendered several touchdown passes, he also had two interceptions, tied for the team lead.

"I know they're 1-7, and they're looking for reasons ... I have no clue what happened," said McElroy. "I've got a call in to Scott (Pioli). I talked to Stanford, and he's about as surprised and shocked and down as one can be. He doesn't totally understand it either."

With Routt Gone, Arenas Is The Next Man Up At Cornerback from KC Star

With this week's unexpected release of veteran Stanford Routt, who was signed as a high-dollar free agent to replace the even bigger-dollar departure of Brandon Carr, Arenas has shifted from his nickel back spot and sits squarely on the pressure-packed position of right corner.

"It's a different monster out there," Arenas said of moving from covering slot receivers to taking on the primary receivers on the outside.

Chiefs vs Steelrers - Game 9 from The Mothership

The Kansas City Chiefs visit the Pittsburgh Steelers for an ESPN Monday Night Football matchup on Nov. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT at Heinz Field.

The Chiefs enter the game with a 1-7 record while Pittsburgh stands at 5-3 and in second place in the AFC North.

Steelers' Top WR Brown Injured from The Associated Press via FOX Sports

The Steelers will likely be without receiver Antonio Brown when they host reeling Kansas City next Monday night. Brown sprained his right ankle early in a 24-20 victory over the New York Giants last Sunday and coach Mike Tomlin doesn't anticipate Brown being available.

''We'll see where the week takes us, we'll leave the door ajar but usually (sprained ankles) aren't positive things, particularly for someone who earns a living the way he earns a living,'' Tomlin said.

Seats Getting Hot For Coaches And GMs from The Concord Monitor

Nowhere is the clock ticking louder than in the AFC West, particularly in KC. Romeo Crennel inherited the head coaching spot on an interim basis in 2011 when Todd Haley was fired after 13 games and the Chiefs won two of their last three, handing Green Bay its only loss of the season, falling in overtime to Oakland, then beating playoff-bound Denver on the road.

General Manager Scott Pioli, reasoning the team was ravaged by injuries to key starters throughout the season, gave Crennel the full-time job. Now, with most of those important players back, the Chiefs are 1-7.

Study Looks At Bias In Celebration Penalty Calls from The New York Times

A Kansas City Chiefs cornerback returns an interception 58 yards for a touchdown, then flexes his biceps in the end zone with one foot resting on the ball. A Seattle wide receiver makes a throat-slashing gesture after catching a 52-yard pass for a score. A running back for Green Bay lies on his back in the end zone and waves his legs and arms to mime a snow angel after an 80-yard scoring catch. After an 18-yard touchdown catch on Jan. 1, a Buffalo receiver exposes an undershirt that has "Happy New Year" written on it.

Each of these touchdown celebrations last season resulted in a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. But they had one other commonality: The fouls were called on black players.

Peyton Manning, Broncos Win Out; Other Midseason Predictions from NFL.com

Bill Polian is a Hall of Famer. What he did in the front offices of the Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts will earn him a trip to Canton. Bad luck and the owner's need for a fresh direction cost him his job with the Colts last season. Imagine what would have happened if he would've drafted Andy Dalton.

Polian would be perfect as the next general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs. He would have full autonomy and energize a demoralized fan base, which is suffering through a truly dreadful season.

Midseason Surprises, Disappointments from CBS Sports

The Chiefs are so bad that their fan base -- usually one of the most loyal, supportive and enthusiastic anywhere -- has turned on the team, calling for an organization overhaul and cheering quarterback Matt Cassel when he was hurt. That isn't like them, but, of course, what's going on isn't anything like the Chiefs, either. They flat-out stink, signing free-agent Stanford Routt to replace cornerback Brandon Carr, then cutting Routt this week. Now coach Romeo Crennel has turned over the defensive coordinator's job to assistant Gary Gibbs and said Brady Quinn starts at quarterback when he recovers from his concussion. Basically, it's a mess in Kansas City, with the Chiefs the early favorite to gain the first pick in next year's draft. They haven't spent a first-round pick on a quarterback since 1983, but the smart money says they will next year ... because they must.

Which Team Will Draft First In April?

Pete Prisco: Chiefs. Have you watched that team?
Clark Judge: Kansas City, and hallelujah. The Chiefs need it. Look for Matt Barkley to be on the short list.
Mike Freeman: The Chiefs. Worst team in football.
Jason La Canfora: Chiefs and Jags will take it down to the wire and give me the Chiefs.
Pat Kirwan: The Jacksonville Jaguars -- with one win and their best player injured -- are heading right for the top spot.
Will Brinson: Chiefs -- They're a full-blown dumpster fire at this point.
Josh Katzowitz: Kansas City Chiefs. I don't see a way to fix them this year, and it's time to rid themselves of general manager Scott Pioli and start over.
Ryan Wilson: The Chiefs. They still haven't led at any point this season during regulation. It's hard not to be the NFL's worst team with that hanging over your head.
Kevin Corke: The Chiefs. To quote Comic Book Guy on The Simpsons, "worst episode ever."

Have Terrible Towel, Will Travel: Secondary Ticket Market Means Some NFL Teams Are Always Home from The Columbus Republic

The unfortunate thing for people is that tickets are always three times higher priced for the Steelers, then as soon as they leave, you want a ticket to a Bengals game the following week and they can't give 'em away," he said with a laugh.

It's hardly a phenomenon unique to Cincinnati. Jacksonville, Kansas City and the New York Jets - who have two combined Super Bowl titles among them - struggle to keep home fans interested when things go south.

Midseason NFL Draft Preview from The North County Times

One of the worst kept secrets of next April's NFL draft is Kansas City will be in the market for a franchise quarterback. Truth be told, Chiefs fans probably wished the offense would have been a turnover machine last season. There's certainly not an Andrew Luck or Bob Griffin in this draft class. Kiper selects USC signal caller Matt Barkley for the beleaguered franchise.
