CUCHULAINN CLG, AN MULLACH BAN
Mullaghbawn 2.17 Éire Og 2.11
In wet conditions, Mullaghbawn welcomed Éire Óg in Round 4 of the league. It was the Craigavon outfit who struck first in the opening exchanges before Mullaghbawn kicked into action. Some nice football over the first third of the game left Mullaghbawn eight points to three up. A goal for Mullaghbawn was to follow and another brace of points, with Óg’s landing a few scores of their own to leave it 1.10 –v- 0.06 at the break. Mullaghbawn clearly learned from last week and game out firing from the first whistle of the second half, registering the first four points.
However, over the course of the next fifteen minutes Éire Óg commanded proceedings and struck 2.04 to keep the contest well and truly alive. With ten minutes to play, Mullaghbawn led only by a single point. The denial of a clear goal scoring opportunity in the danger zone resulted in a penalty for Mullaghbawn, which was coolly dispatched. The visitors swiftly replied with a long range score to leave a goal between the sides; although, this was to be their last. Our boys hit three equally impressive scores in the closing stages and ran out winners by six points in the finish. This was a vital win with a break in the league, for the first round of the championship coming up next weekend. The Reserves have no fixture for this coming week.

MINOR FOOTBALL
Mullaghbawn were at home to Armagh Harps in their third league game on Monday night. It was our boys who were the more efficient in front of goal in the opening stages, leading by 1-2 to 0-1 after ten minutes. Harps then responded with three unanswered points to leave a point between the sides. With ten minutes remaining in the first half one of our midfielders was dismissed after receiving a black card. This was to have a major influence on the game. To the lads credit, they responded with two points from play to leave the halftime score; Mullaghbawn 1-4 Armagh Harps 0-5 Both teams exchanged a couple of scores within the first ten minutes of the second half, and there was still two points between the teams. Mullaghbawn were in the ascendancy at this stage but midway through the second half the momentum swung in Harps favour. They began to dominate around the middle and scored a goal and four points in quick succession to give them a five point victory. The final score; Mullaghbawn 1-7 Armagh Harps 1-12 Next up for the minors is an away game to Clann Eireann on Monday night.
UNDER 12 FOOTBALL
The Under 12s had their first league match away to Cullyhanna on Saturday. In treacherous conditions, every player gave it everything and Mullaghbawn edged the game by the smallest or margins. Well done!

SHANE O’NEILL’S GFC
Senior Men
Our senior men fell to their first defeat of the season on Friday evening away to Clann Eireann, 2 – 17 to 0 – 4. The Shanes were well below par in this game and by half-time the result was never in doubt as they trailed by fourteen points, 2 – 9 to 0 – 1. Clann Eireann continued to dominate throughout the second-half and went on to claim the points with a comprehensive win.
Senior Ladies
Our senior ladies put in another excellent team performance on Wednesday night to beat Ballyhegan by a comfortable twenty-three points. Despite missing a few regular starters through injury, illness and work commitments, the Shanes were the dominant side throughout the contest. Our youthful attack had far too much speed and mobility for an outclassed opposition and whenever Ballyhegan managed to break forward, the Shanes defence quickly snuffed out any threat and launched fast counter attacks to reach half-time leading by leading by thirteen points, 4 – 2 to 0 – 1. The second-half served up more of the same with Shanes absorbing attacks with ease whilst stretching the lead to run out winners on a 7 – 4 to 0 – 2 score-line…well done to every player for their contribution to a fine team effort. The senior ladies are next scheduled to play on Saturday, 16th May away to Sarsfields. Training continues on Friday evening at St Paul’s field at 7.00pm.
Minor Boys
Last Monday night saw our minor boys at home to St Brigid’s and unfortunately they fell to a heavy defeat. The game was played in horrendous weather conditions but it was the away side who coped much better with them to run out deserving winners. Next up is an away game against Shamrock Gaels on Monday evening and all players re asked to meet at the club at 6.00pm.
Minor Girls
The minor girls were scheduled to play Cullyhanna on Saturday but the game was postponed and will be re-fixed in the near future.
U16 Boys
Our U16 boys recorded a well-deserved win away to Silverbridge on Thursday evening, 5 – 11 to 1 – 5. The Shanes hit the front in the opening minutes and at half-time they led by fifteen points, 4 – 4 to 0 – 1. Silverbridge made the better start to the second-half, scoring 1- 3 on the trot but the Shanes soon got back into their stride and went on to play the better football and claim the win. Next up for the boys is home game against Clann Eireann on Thursday evening.
U12 Boys
The U12 boys had a friendly game against Silverbridge on Wednesday night and on a very damp and cold night produced a good display against a strong home side – thanks to Silverbridge for the invite. Unfortunately the first league game of the season against Corrinshego which was to have taken place on Saturday was postponed but hopefully it will be re-fixed for during the week – all players will be informed accordingly. Training continues on Wednesday at 6.00pm with another league game scheduled for next Saturday.
U12 Girls
Our U12 girls put in a great performance last Sunday evening against Silverbridge and recorded a very good win 7 – 6 to 1 – 7. All the girls were outstanding from start to finish and played some great football throughout the game….well done to all involved.
U10s
The U10s had a game against Silverbridge on Friday night at home. There was some excellent football on display and the home side put in a particularly impressive display. Training continues on Tuesday at 6.00pm as normal and there should be at least one game next weekend. Details will go out by text as soon as they are known.
U8s
The U8s were in action against Whitecross at home on Saturday morning. It was a horrible morning for football and conditions deteriorated further during the game. It is a great credit to the players on both sides that despite the awful conditions there was some terrific football played. Whitecross put in a particularly strong performance on the morning and thanks to them for coming to play on such a poor morning. Hopefully we can return the fixture in the future – preferably on a warmer day. The U8s have another game arranged against Newtown away from home this Tuesday – weather permitting – and all players are asked to meet at the club at the normal training time of 6.00pm. There should also be a game next weekend for this age group and details will follow during the week.
U6s
Please note that there will no U6 training this Wednesday evening. It will resume on Wednesday 13th May at the usual time in Bessbrook Community Centre.
Meabh O’Neills Camogie
On Tuesday evening the U14 camogs were involved in tough game against Mullaghbawn. The game itself was played in terrible weather conditions and great credit must go to both sets of players for putting on great display of camogie which saw the game end in a draw. Well done to the U12 camogs who took part in a mini-blitz in Aghagallon on Saturday morning. The girls played two games and recorded great wins over Clan na Gael and Aghagallon….well done everyone. Training continues as normal this week with the seniors scheduled to play at home against Killeavy on Wednesday evening.

SILVERBRIDGE HARPS GFC
Main Sponsors: Coole Fuels & Donnelly’s Wholesale
Senior: Our seniors recorded their first win of the League campaign with a comprehensive victory over Clan na Gael, at home on Friday evening. In a game punctuated with excellent displays of fielding, the Bridge commandeered this game from the throw-in racking up 1-07 before Clans registered their first score in the 24th minute.
Peter Carragher opened the scoring with a fine point, followed by Pauraic Keating and Aaron Duffy combining to score the game’s first goal. Just moments later Keating rattled the back of the Clan’s net again and put the Bridge firmly in the driving seat.
Further points from Aidan Quinn and Thomas McKenna preceded a spell of great defensive play which kept Clans scoreless. The Bridge notched up three further points – Eoghan Burns (free), Brendan Byrne and Seamus Kelly – before Clans were awarded a 45’, the resulting point opening their account.
Injuries to players led to the introduction of a number of substitutes in the second half but this did not affect the momentum. Eoghan Burns scored his second point from a free before Clans replied with a point quickly followed by a goal. The Bridge reply was immediate and points from Eoghan Burns, Brendan Byrne and Joe Rock soon cancelled it out. Further points from Aaron Duffy and Peter Carragher concluded the Bridge’s tally, the game ending 2-11 to 1-05.
Team: B Cumiskey, C Lambe, S Kelly, P Cumiskey, G Reel, B Murphy, J McArdle, B Byrne, A Duffy, T McKenna, A Quinn, C McGuire, E Burns, P Carragher, P Keating. Subs: Joe Rock for Thomas McKenna; Cillian Quinn for Ciaran McGuire; James McKeown for Aidan Quinn; Ciaran Campbell for Gary Reel.
Match on Sunday away v Middletown, throw-in 2pm.
Minor: Update on recent matches: 13th April Silverbridge 3-09 St Patrick’s 2-13. We began our season with an away fixture against old rivals St. Patrick’s. With never more than a goal separating the sides throughout the hour, a goal from the home side four minutes into stoppage time sealed the points for St. Pat’s. A great game, played in good spirit with some great scores from both sides. Young Patrick McGeeney excelled at full back and efforts from all involved were tremendous.
20th April Silverbridge 4-15 Mullaghbawn 4-04. Keen to get the disappointment of the previous week out of their system, the Bridge chalked up their first victory with a comprehensive win over Mullaghbawn. Goals from David Garvey, Jamie Murphy, Jarly Og Burns and Ronan Reel paved the way but great defending from Mulholland brothers Donal and Aaron, Myles McGeeney, Francis Rafferty and goalkeeper Odhran Murphy held firm against a sharp opposition. Apart from some magnificent high fielding from Niall Conlon and Gavin Burns, a feature of the game was Ronan Reel’s dead ball kicking. Several frees from around 50 yards split the posts with yards to spare and he finished the game with a personal tally of 1-07.
27th April Silverbridge 5-10 Dromintee 3-12. Played in winter-like conditions, were it not for the excellent floodlight system in Dromintee, this game may well have not finished such was the dark cloud that descended in the second half. A dubious penalty in the second half put Dromintee in the driving seat, this the second occasion in three games that young Odhran Murphy had to face the penalty taker. He made a great effort to save, touching on to the crossbar but somehow the ball crossed the line. A later surge from the Bridge with goals from Eamon Hearty and some great play from Oisin Martin and Jamie Murphy sealed victory. The role played by our U16s has to be praised at this stage of our campaign.
Team: Odhran Murphy, Gareth McCann, Francis Rafferty, Patrick McGeeney, Aaron Mulholland, Donal Mulholland, Myles McGeeney, Eamon Hearty, Peter Creegan, Michael Muckian, Jarly Og Burns, Niall Conlon, Gavin Burns, Oisin Martin, Jamie Murphy, Mark Rowland, David Garvey, Ronan Reel, Daniel McKeown.

HIGH MOSS SARSFIELDS GFC
Most Important Notices
Armagh League 1st Division Annaghmore Pearses vs High Moss Sarsfields GFC
Friday 1st May 2014
Final score Annaghmore 2-10 Sarsfields 3-10
Friday night saw the meeting of Annaghmore and Sarsfields on a cold evening. The match was very lively, with both sides displaying a strong forward line. Sarsfields surged into an early 1-4 to 0-3 within the first 15 minutes with Michael Stevenson scoring a goal and four points and Annaghmore’s Oisín MacÍomhair replying with three points from play.
With a second goal for the Hoops men from Thomas McAlinden after twenty minutes, it seemed the away team would go ahead to dominate the rest of the match. However, following a strong comeback, late in the first half by the home side, two goals by Pearses’ Shane McGeown and two more points from Armagh senior player Oisín MacÍomhair, Annaghmore lead after twenty five minutes with half time score Annaghmore 2-5 to 2-4.
Late in the exciting first half, Thomas McAlinden scored another goal for Sarsfields and late points from Paul McGaughey and Michael Stevenson, Sarsfields lead after thirty minutes with half time score Annaghmore 2-6 Sarsfields 3-6. Both sides exchanged a point in the opening minutes of the second half with help from Oisín MacÍomhair and Michael Stevenson however a spate of wides from Sarsfields kept the home side within three points of a draw.
After twenty minutes, both sides had shared another two points a side, leaving a very lively last ten minutes with great pressure from Annaghmore searching for a goal but it wasn’t to be their day as Eamon McGeown and Michael Stevenson ensured Sarsfields remained ahead with final score Annaghmore 2-10 to Sarsfields 3-10.

MADDEN RAPAREES GFC
Senior Intermediate League
The Senior team welcomed Collegeland to Raparee park on Friday evening past on their return to Intermediate football. The lads were intent on putting two wins back-to-back for the first time this season as the looked to step up their preparations for the forthcoming Intermediate Championship game. Madden started the brightest with a fine score from distance by Caolan Vallely who both started and finished the move. The visitors replied with one of their own before Liam Grimley quickly restored Maddens lead.
The visitors scored 1-2 on the bounce to give them a commanding five point cushion entering the second quarter of he game. However like always the Raparees responded with the next five consecutive scores from Aron McKenna (2) and three Ciaran Rafferty free kicks including two from distance along the Monaghan road side of the pitch. This left the Raparees leading by a single point with half time nearly upon us the visitors gained the upper hand once more scoring a vital goal after some miscommunication at the back. Half Time Score Madden 0-7 Collegeland 2-03.
Collegeland came out after the break and almost immediately continued where they left off scoring two free kicks to give them a four point advantage at the beginning of the half. The lads showed great resilience and battled back with some impressive points from the Kyle Morgan, Aron McKenna, Connor Grimley and two Ciaran Rafferty frees.
However there was a nervy finish to the game and both sides had their chances with Collegeland rather unlucky not to come away with the points only for an athletic save from goalkeeper Stephen O’Reilly to deny the Collegeland substitute right at the death. Collegeland found themselves in a position to win the game not too long after, this time hitting the side netting to the goalkeepers near post.
This game will no doubt stand to the lads as they progress through what we all hope will be a long season ahead of them. The resilience they show time and time again to come back from huge deficits is a trait of this team that many throughout the county wished they possessed. The lads now head to Father Rafferty Park in Portadown on Monday evening for their Championship fixture against Clann Eireann of Lurgan. Please note this fixture has a throw in of 7.15pm. Everyone at the club would like to wish the players and management team the very best of luck in this fixture.
