Automotive Service Technology students at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus were given a special treat earlier this month when Joe Schluterman, owner of Paris Ford, brought in a new Power Stroke 6.7 turbo diesel for the group to study.

Instructor Brian Bass said, “It was a great exhibit for the students to view after learning about this engine in their Light Duty Diesel class.”

Schluterman, a graduate of Arkansas Valley Technical Institute, which became Arkansas Tech-Ozark in 2003, has been a tremendous resource for Automotive Service Technology advancing its training, program chair Bobby Sewell said.

“The resource we have in Paris Ford is invaluable; it helps us inform our students of the new technologies and what they get to look forward to when they become [Automotive Service Excellence] certified in the field,” he said.

Arkansas Tech-Ozark offers an Associate of Applied Science in General Technology with an option in Automotive Service Technology, as well as a Technical Certificate in Automotive Service Technology. The program is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).

Along with employing graduated at Paris Ford, Schluterman has helped the program by serving on its advisory board and obtaining equipment donated from a Ford training center in Little Rock, which is utilized by Ford certified technicians, Sewell said.

“They have helped us align our program with today’s high automotive dealership standards,” he said.
