The third iteration of the international contemporary art biennial, Prospect.3: Notes for Now (P.3) will continue its three-month run with a variety of community-based events in New Orleans throughout the month of November. Several of these events are free, open to the public, or crafted for kids and families, designed to closely link the New Orleans community with the biennial and its artists. Read more below.

Family P.3 Reads

· Thursday, November 6, 5 – 6 PM:

· P.3Reads for Families featuring P.3 Artist Christopher Myers, discussing Misty Copeland and his book ‘Firebird.’ New Orleans Public Library, Children’s Resource Center (913 Napoleon Avenue)

· Sirmans’s thoughtful consideration of the role that books and literature play in our collective understanding of the world is at the heart of P.3. The P.3Reads series aims to utilize the shared sense of community that comes from reading as an entrée for audiences who are curious about contemporary art, and would like to better understand the creative processes of contemporary artists. For those already familiar with contemporary art, the series will offer a deeper perspective on the relationship between literature and other art forms.

Digital Youth Storytellers

· Saturdays, November 8, 15, 22 as well as December 6, 1 – 4 PM, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art (925 Camp Street)

· Throughout the month of November, participating P.3 venue, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art (925 Camp Street) will host Digital Youth Storytellers, a series of educational storytelling and animation workshops in conjunction with P.3, Big Class and NOVAC. Focusing on place, memory and history, Digital Youth Storytellers will examine Jean-Michel Basquiat’s paintings about New Orleans and the South in the exhibit Basquiat and the Bayou Presented by the Helis Foundation. Students will reflect on memory, historicity, and iconography in Basquiat’s work and, in connecting that work to their own lives, will create poetry, personal histories, and an animated movie. Third Annual Greater New Orleans Neighborhoods Summit Resource Fair

· Saturday, November 8, 12 – 1 PM, Dillard University Professional Schools Building (2601 Gentilly Blvd)

· P.3 will participate in the Resource Fair portion of the New Orleans Neighborhood Summit, a one-day professional development conference for Orleans Parish neighborhood associations and members. The resource fair allows attendees to obtain information from city agencies, departments and strategic partners.

Prospect.3 Building Workshop for Kids

· Saturday, November 8, 1 – 3 PM, Longue Vue House and Gardens (7 Bamboo Road)

· Children ages 5 and up (with an accompanying adult) are invited to Longue Vue to learn about green building practices in New Orleans! Bring a shoebox with a lift-off top to create a building. Enjoy a tour of P.3 artist and architect Shigeru Ban’s exhibit along with a reading of Iggy Peck, Architect. Cost: $15 members; $18 nonmembers. May Books Official Opening Ceremony

· Basquiat has inspired many poets and sparked conversations about the intersection of race and art.
