It is difficult to evaluate a hotel since it brings together so many features, from location to the design, comfort and level of luxury, but there are some which appeal to us more than the rest due to a certain charm or originality so let us take a look at the ones that impressed us this year.

10. The Honeycomb by Bjarke Ingels Group

Located in the Bahamas, this structure stands out as the landmark of the region with its imposing aesthetic created in collaboration with the local practices of HKS Architects and Michael Diggiss architects, offering retail areas, golf carts and a residential lobby as well as abundant landscaping elements.

9. Maxx Royal Kemer Hotel by Baraka Architects

The hotel acts as a boundary between the thick forest nearby and the beach, so the designers created a complex resort beginning at the base of the hill and offering six restaurants, four bars as well as a spa integrated into the beautiful setting of the Kemer district in Antalya, Turkey.

8. The Bill & Coo Boutique Hotel by K-Studio

Bill and Coo is a member of the Small Luxury Hotel group offering a great restaurant and 35 bedroom suites renovated to be up to contemporary standards while still taking their inspiration from the vernacular building traditions of the island for a minimalist and highly textural ambiance.

7. The Yunnan Hotel Complex by Kengo Kuma

The complex takes its name from the Yunnan region of China, offering an overview of the nearby valley from a semi-opaque façade which combines timber with glass to integrate with the nearby Yunnan Sales Center that was designed by the same practice.

6. El Blok Hotel by Fuster + Architects

The porous façade wants to reference the reef formations near the shore of Esperanza, Puerto Rico and they also create a rich interplay of lights inside. There are 23 rooms with dining facilities, a roof terrace with Jacuzzi and hydraulic tiles with a pattern that reminds the visitors of the native Caribbean Basin art.

5. The Alila Jabal Akhdar Mountain Resort

Located in the Al Hajar Mountains in Oman, this resort stands at a height of 2000 meters above sea level to provide its visitors with an overview of the entire gorge from a setting with eco-friendly elements and built with traditional stone construction methods.

4. Corte San Pietro by Daniela Amoroso

The historic interior in Matera, Italy was made more eloquent through the addition of contemporary features to allow the rough stone walls and ceiling beams to stand out as a contrasting element so that the aesthetic of today is intermixed with that of the 17th century for a really cozy experience.

3. Casa da Calcada Hotel by Ricardo Carvalho + Joana Vilhena Arquitectos

This hotel is located in one of the most beautiful homes in the region of Provezende, Douro, Portugal, defining the street through the aid of the nearby chapel and square. The area used to host several vineyard acres and the small buildings made of stone became the hotel rooms, offering visitors a great experience among the old ruins.

2. Hotel Basiliani by Domenico Fiore

The uneven site of Matera, Italy allowed the designers to transform one of the oldest human settings into a unique resort that provides a view toward the prehistoric caves of the Gavina Canyon District from an interior that combines carved limestone with red wood furniture and a dark flooring.

1. Emperor Qianmen Hotel by Asap

The project occupies the site of a former public bath and thus you can see plenty of aquatic elements inside with a large bar atop the city and peaceful guestrooms that were designed to offer a shelter in the middle of the crowded city of Beijing, China.
