For the period of Sunday, January 26th, through Saturday, February 1st, the Police Department responded to 1,105 calls for service of which 123 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, January 26:

At about 1:00 p.m., an officer responded to the Macy’s parking lot at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a vandalism report. The victim parked his Enterprise rental vehicle in the south lot for a short period. When he returned, he discovered a large scratch on the passenger side, approximately eight feet long. No witnesses were located.

At approximately 5:18 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of Baldwin Avenue and Las Tunas Drive regarding a robbery that just occurred. An unknown male suspect approached the victim as she was waiting at a Metro bus stop and quickly grabbed her purse from her possession. The suspect fled in an unknown type red sedan. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’7” tall, 130 lbs., wearing a faded navy blue hooded sweatshirt.

Monday, January 27:

Around 7:33 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence under construction in the 1300 block of Highland Oaks drive regarding a commercial burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) entered the location by an unknown means and stole appliances and furniture. An investigation revealed the house keys were reported missing from the realtor lock box the day prior. No witnesses were located.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a theft report. The victim explained her wallet was stolen while she was working at Red China Restaurant, 855 South Baldwin Avenue. Unknown suspect(s) removed the wallet from behind the cash register and fled undetected. No one reported seeing or hearing anything suspicious.

Tuesday, January 28:

Just after midnight, an officer was patrolling the skate park located at 100 South Second Avenue when he observed two subjects sleeping inside sleeping bags. The area around their makeshift campsite was littered with trash and numerous personal items. The 23-year-old male and 25-year-old female were cited for violating the Arcadia Municipal Code – Illegal Overnight Camping.

At approximately 12:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residential burglary in progress in the 200 block of California Street. Upon arrival, a male suspect was observed fleeing from the area; however, he was detained in a neighbor’s backyard. An investigation revealed the 50-year-old male forced entry using burglary tools and ransacked the bedrooms. Money and several pieces of jewelry were found on his person. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Wednesday, January 29:

Around 5:50 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of Foothill Boulevard and Rodeo Road regarding a traffic collision. The driver, a 65-year-old female, turned into what she thought was a curve and collided with the center median. She was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for lacerations and bruising to her head. An investigation revealed she was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Since she was hospitalized at the time of the report, the officer requested a DUI charge be filed at a later time.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a pedestrian-auto traffic collision in the intersection of Second Avenue and El Dorado Street. A 12-year-old boy was riding his push scooter without a helmet northbound on Second Avenue in the southbound bicycle lane. He veered into southbound lanes of traffic and was struck by a vehicle, launching through the air and to the ground. Arcadia Fire responded to the scene, provided treatment, and transported him to LA County USC Medical Center. The boy suffered a major head injury, but is expected to survive.

An investigation revealed the driver was not under the influence. The case was referred to the Department of Child and Family Services due to the parents allowing the boy to ride his scooter without a helmet.

Thursday, January 30:

Just after 12:20 p.m., an officer responded to the 2000 block of South Baldwin Avenue regarding a report of a dog bite. The victim was running along her daily route when two unleashed pit bulls started to chase after her. One of the dogs bit her left arm and began pulling on it, causing her to fall to the ground and break her arm. Shortly after, the dogs’ owner appeared and called the dogs off. A US Postal worker saw the incident and provided aid to the victim until Arcadia Fire arrived on scene. The victim was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital and the owner was cited for leaving her dogs unsecured and unattended.

Animal Services responded to the scene and transported the dogs to Pasadena Humane Society (PHS) for a ten-day quarantine. Ten newborn bit pull puppies were also located inside the residence and transported to PHS so they could be nursed by their mother. The victim is desirous of prosecution.

At approximately 2:17 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 100 block of Diamond Avenue regarding a theft that occurred at Arcadia High School, 180 Campus Drive. The victim explained unknown suspect(s) stole his MacBook Air laptop from inside his backpack, which he left unattended at a lunch table that was occupied by his “friends”. The victim advised he was waiting for the suspect(s) to turn on the computer so he could discover its exact location via the device’s built-in GPS locator.

Friday, January 31:

At approximately 3:44 a.m., an officer observed a stalled vehicle on Santa Anita Avenue at Colorado Boulevard and conducted a welfare check on the driver. The officer discovered the driver was asleep and hunched over the steering wheel. An investigation revealed the 28-year-old male was under the influence of methamphetamine and in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Around 12:40 p.m., officers responded to Pasadena Police Department, 207 North Garfield Avenue, regarding a warrant pickup. As Arcadia officers were securing the 33-year-old male suspect inside the patrol vehicle, he made several suicidal threats leading the officers to believe he was a danger to himself. Pasadena Fire responded to the scene and transported the suspect to Arcadia Methodist Hospital where he was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold.

Saturday, February 1:

At about 00:39 a.m., an officer made consensual contact with a subject standing on the southwest corner of Huntington Drive and Baldwin Avenue. The officer discovered the 26-year-old male was in possession of a methamphetamine pipe. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Around 10:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of East Newman Avenue regarding a domestic violence report. After an argument with his wife, the suspect punched her in the chest leaving a visible injury. The 44-year-old male was determined to be the primary aggressor. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
