Pacapong is a much different experience than you’re used to, if you grew up gaming on a Pac-man arcade machine. If you ever wished you could play three of your favorite classic arcade games at the same time, your wish is now granted. Only, that is, if your three favorite titles were Pac-man, Pong, and Space Invaders.

Mini Ludum Dare Developer Challenge

An online community of gaming developers engage in competitions three times a year, in April, August and December. The community suggests a theme and all developers submit original games based on the guidelines, in accordance with the rules. Ludum Dare events have been taking place since the community’s founding in 2002 by Geoff Howland, involving participants from all over the world.

In March, the community launched a mini challenge to gear developers up for the April main event. From about March 20th to March 29th, contestants had to develop a game based on the original Pong. While exact copies were prohibited, the developers could involve any art, design and coding language they desired, as long as the final product was based on Pong’s concept.

The Result? Pacapong!

Developer kingPenguin delivered an addicting game that meshes three famed classics together in an irresistible fashion. The game is two-player and can be downloaded for either Mac, Linux or Windows platforms.

Each player can use the computer’s keyboard or attach a gamepad for an even more classic experience. Using a Pong paddle, each player bounces Pac-man into a maze, trying to make him reach the opposite side without hitting a ghost. If Pac-man runs into a ghost, it’s the second player’s turn. At the same time, each player has to fight off oncoming space invaders with their paddle.
