Chefs to Face off at Oyster and Wine Celebration

Newport, Oregon—Chefs hailing from Portland, down the Willamette Valley and out to the coast will face off at the 15th annual Oyster Cloyster at the Oregon Coast Aquarium on November 7.
Their culinary creations will be a shuck above the raw bar with past preparations including an oyster cappuccino and an oyster BLT. Chefs will vie for accolades as judged by Portland food writer Audrey Van Buskirk, Corporate Executive Chef of Nestle Professional USA Greg A. Taylor, Chef Emeritus of Mt. Hood’s Timberline Lodge Leif Benson and Executive Chef of the Lincoln City Culinary Center Sharon Wiest. Oyster Cloyster attendees will also have a chance to cast their votes for the People’s Choice award.
Contestants include chefs representing the 2014 Oyster Cloyster winners Local Ocean Seafoods (People’s Choice), Asiatico Waterfront Fusion Sushi (First Place) and Pelican Pub and Brewery (Third Place).
Newcomers Dan & Luis Oyster Bar of Portland and Kyes Cuisines of Corvallis will also cast their dishes into the competition. They will also face seasoned competitors from Gino’s Ocean Bleu, Embarcadero-Waterfront Grille, Rogue Ales Bayfront Public House, Shilo Restaurant Newport, and Spirit Mountain Casino.
In addition to delectable foods from the land and sea, Willamette Valley Vineyards, Duck Pond Cellars, Capitello Wines, Territorial Vineyard and Rogue Ales will serve up tastes and glasses for menu price amid the Aquarium’s exhibit galleries after-hours.
Behind the scenes tours, live music and no-stakes casino games with dealers from Chinook Winds Casino Resort will provide hours of entertainment for this roving event.
Proceeds people shell out to attend Oyster Cloyster will benefit both the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Oregon Coast Community College Foundation.
The event is still accepting applications from wineries and chefs that wish to showcase their personal approach to Northwest cuisine.
The Aquarium is pleased to announce that Oregon Oyster Farms will be the featured oyster provider for the event. The Yaquina Bay-based seafood operation has been harvesting oysters since 1907.
The 2015 Oyster Cloyster event is presented by Chinook Winds Casino Resort and Pacific Seafood. Additional supporters include Bank of the West, Georgia-Pacific, the News-Times and Wilder Newport.
