Jazzy World Tour – Musical Journey for Kids

By The Melody Book

data-recalc-dims="1">

(4.99–>1.99) Jazzy World Tour – Musical Journey for Kids. I had a bit of a laugh at some of the pronuciations of the australian animals. It is a good educational app teaching children about animals, musical instruments and landmarks or foods from those countries. It is great for educating students about other regions from the one they live in. Has no iap, and no external links. I like the options it has where your child can create their own music with animals and instruments from whichever country they choose, or they can create a video or movie using the animals and images they choose move them around and record or take a photo which then gets added to your world collection album. Excellent app and I will play this with my children. ~SharonTurriff on 2013-05-18 05:41:04 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

The Frog and Fish storybook – the interactive nursery rhyme for children

By Valdas Barvainis

data-recalc-dims="1">

(3.99–>1.99) The Frog and Fish storybook – the interactive nursery rhyme for children. This is a cute little ebook which tells the story of 2 friends who hatch at the same time and grow up thinking they are brothers until they start to show some differences. They then realise they are not brothers, however they discover they can still be friends and that there is nothing wrong with being different. The story has some wonderful rhymes throughout and involves your child in the story with the fun interactions on each page. Some cute illustrations and the images are very simple. Each item your child can interact with is shown by a pink dot. There are 2 reading options read to me, or read myself. The read to me option highlights the text while it is being read which allows kids to follow the story and begin to recognise sight words. However my issue was that the text was blurry and was not easily read. If there wasn’t a read to me option there were parts of the story I struggled to read. I think the developer would do well to change the text type. Other than that I think it is a fun little story which children will love. No IAP’s or external links. ~Sharon Turriff on 2014-03-31 02:21:26 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

Toca Store

By Toca Boca AB

data-recalc-dims="1">

(2.99–>0.99) Toca Store. Great app to simply play or to use it as a launching pad for other activities of daily living goals, such as: increasing vocabulary – requesting and offering items that are wanted, basic counting and sequencing, and rehearsing and building tolerances for sensory input while in a store. The magical part of this app is that it is built to be interactive – it is more fun with a partner! You can negotiate everything from who is store keeper and who is customer to just ….whatcha wanna sell or buy. For kids that are more sensitive…you can practice buying items at Toca Store – and habituate to the cash register sound and the sequence of waiting (paying and bagging up your items), then progress to playing “store’, then visit a store and buy a few of the items with a checklist… The graphics are well done and inviting. The only thing that I would like is to be able to push a cart through an aisle and try to spot items that were selected to buy. That way you have the whole sequence of a store shopping…and not just the last part. ~Jo Booth on 2013-05-02 16:36:29 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

Jazzy ABC – Music Education For Kids

By The Melody Book

data-recalc-dims="1">

(1.99–>0.99) Jazzy ABC – Music Education For Kids. This is a wonderful musical way for your child to learn both the alphabet and about things related to music. Let your children play the drums, oboe and trumpet just to name a few. They can interact with the instruments. In the other section it is like a mini quiz where your child has to correctly identify the instrument which is asked for. aacorn AAC – The Intelligent Solution for Children with Autism, Apraxia, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, MS and Developmentally Delayed Speech

By aacorn

data-recalc-dims="1">

(189.99–>149.99) aacorn – The Intelligent AAC Solution, for Children with Autism, Apraxia, Cerebral Palsy, Downs, MS and Developmentally Delayed Speech — A whole new approach to AAC and to my knowledge, the first to leverage artificial intelligence to learn how you speak to facilitate better grammar as well as improving speed. As a parent, I know better than most there is no such thing as a one size fits all when it comes to AAC. This app is so radically different that you have to set aside previous experiences and walk through the introductory lessons and videos to take advantage of the use of their language tree that actually learns how you speak by offering the most likely choices in addition to base language options apart from the tree of choices. There are very helpful online videos to get you started. Creatively this app can be used with a wide range of kids, but since it features a type-able search to expedite word searching, literate kids will have maximum benefit. Adding words is a breeze and adding your own drawings or pictures is simple, although accessing your photos does not appear to be an option at the moment. I like that you can have multiple users and program on one iPad then sync via Dropbox to another, never needing to take the device away (although I have not yet used this feature).

From the iTunes listing (I feel important and no need to try and paraphrase): Notes:

1. 15% of the proceeds from sales of aacorn go directly to funding research into children’s health issues via the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

2. Educational Institutions in many countries are eligible for a 50% discount when purchasing 20 or more licenses through Apple’s Volume Licensing Program.

3. aacorn supports multiple users for no extra cost and secure over the air cloud back-ups.

4. aacorn also caters to users with fine motor control difficulties. Words are selected on release of button press, and users can disable multi-touch swipe gestures and choose between real-time or speak it later speech.

This is a high-priced, premium AAC app with novel features worth a look. There are no IAPs, ads or social media. My daughter is truly eager working with this, so I gladly recommend it to people wanting to explore AAC that can teach and improve communication in a novel way.

Toca Band

By Toca Boca AB

data-recalc-dims="1">

(1.99–>0.99) Toca Band. What a lot of fun this is. My daughter just loves playing around with this. I love to see her experimenting to try out different sounds and see what works together. It is great to teach children about rhythm and how different sounds can compliment each other to make up their own unique song. I think this is a wonderful app that is teaching children about music while they are having fun playing. I also love the fact that if they put one of the characters into the star position they can play with that character individually. This allows your child even more freedom of expression and creativity in their work. A truly wonderful app with no IAP’s and external links are locked from children. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-07-08 21:56:50 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

Toca Mini

By Toca Boca AB

data-recalc-dims="1">

(2.99–>0.99) Toca Mini is a funtastic! Make your own Mini Me or create a whole new character in this toy making app. First you get a figure, then add color, eyes, nose and mouth. The hair is a little tricky, but you get the hang of it after a few tries. This is so great for teaching body parts and body awareness. The unique feature that I love, is that the character you are creating is multidimensional; they have a left or right side, front and back, and top and bottom. This is a feature all therapists will love, as body awareness gives you that firm foundation that helps you then begin to explore the world around you. There is a wonderful parent’s section giving ideas on how to extend play. The Toca Boca Team is always there for support, and really stands behind everything they do. It is apparent their love for teaching children, and making it fun! There is a secured link to other apps and support. Highly recommended. ~Jo Booth OT on 2013-12-13 06:57:20 ==> User rating: 5 Recommended: Yes

Toca Hair Salon

By Toca Boca AB

data-recalc-dims="1">

(1.99–>0.99) I’ve gotten a lot of use out of this app in speech-language therapy both for language stimulation and as a reward. Kids can wash, dry, comb, cut, shave, grow, dye and add accessories to the characters’ hair. This app can be be easily used to work on the following concepts: understanding and use of color words (12 colors to choose from when dying hair), wet and dry while washing hair, long and short, and on and off (hair accessories).

There are no in-app purchases. There is an ad link on the title page to other Toca Boca apps but this can be disabled via Apple settings-instructions given in parents’ section. A Jazzy Day – Music Education Book for Kids

By The Melody Book

data-recalc-dims="1">

(4.99–>1.99) A Jazzy Day – Music Education Book for Kids. A fun and unique way for children to learn about instruments and what instruments and styles make up Jazz music. I love how it has been made into a story and that your children can interact with the instruments on each page to learn about the sounds of those instruments. There is also another from the main page where they learn the first letter of each instrument and also the sound they make, or they can go to the learn section where your children can play around with the instruments moving them, playing with them, making them smaller or larger, and it also displays the name of the instrument when they press on it. Toca Kitchen

By Toca Boca AB

data-recalc-dims="1">

(1.99–>0.99) Toca Kitchen is very popular with my preschool speech students. Kids can choose from 4 characters to feed, each with different food preferences. There are 12 food choices in the fridge and 5 ways to prepare the food. I like that you can prepare each item more than one way. Example: you can slice the food, then boil it. This allows me to practice two-step directions with my students. The app can be used to practice the prepositions in, out, on, off and the adjectives hot and cold. I have found it to be useful with reluctant talkers (few kids can resist saying “in” or “on” to get to use the food processor). The kids like figuring out what the characters will eat and what they will refuse. There is an ad for other Toca Boca apps on the initial page but this can be turned off thorough Apple settings. There are no in app purchases. Highly recommended! ~Joanna Clancy on 2013-12-10 17:52:58 ==> User rating: 5 Recommended: Yes

Toca Robot Lab

By Toca Boca AB

data-recalc-dims="1">

(2.99–>0.99) Toca Robot Lab is awesome. I am sure that is how my son would describe it since he goes to this app again and again, even though we have had it for many months and we have hundreds of apps. He is 4 and can navigate Toca Robot Lab like it was made especially for him!

The graphics are clean and high quality. The music is perfect for the app. He does not know all of the things he is learning as he flies his robot creation through the maze, knocking things down, rolling balls, and finding the stars before heading to the magnet. Cause and effect, physics, and more!

He loves to play this app both on the iPod and iPad, so it is definitely a WINNER. ~Dece Gherardini on 2013-04-29 11:46:29 ==> User rating: 5 Recommended: Yes

Toca Pet Doctor

By Toca Boca AB

data-recalc-dims="1">

(2.99–>0.99) Toca Pet Doctor is a fun little way for kids to work on fine motor skills, deduction skills, shape matching skills and so much more. They run their own pet doctors office where they get to choose from the multiple sick pets which one they wish to treat. Once in the room they need to work out what they need to do to treat each patient. Once they have healed each patient they then get to feed them with foods that they typically eat in the wild. This helps children learn the types of foods that animals eat as well. Once each patient is completely satisfied they then fall asleep all relaxed. When children have healed the entire room of patients they can start over again. When healing patients they will have to use a wide range of skills to complete puzzles, line up drops, clean sores, and wrap bandages around sores. A great fun little app for preschoolers. Also, I love that this app is so versatile, you can use it to target simple inferences, have students label pictured items, answer simple wh-questions. Toca Builders

(1.99–>0.99) Toca Builders is a really fun creative play app. My son loves building up blocks and then smashing them, and using the painting builder, too. There are six builders that paint, stack, smash, lift, spray paint, and stretch to put blocks all over. The app will save your work and let you take a picture of your design as well. The controls were not intuitive to me at all, but my son figured them out in about 5 seconds. There are no in-app purchases and all external links are under parent-access secured menus. Star Walk Kids – Astronomy for Children

Room on the Broom: Games

By Magic Light Pictures Ltd.

data-recalc-dims="1">

(4.99–>0.99) Room on the Broom: Games is an absolute must for preschoolers learning basic iPad skills. The games are based on the book by Julia Donaldson, and oh yes, next shopping trip that book just may follow me home. The illustrations are beautiful, and the music is low key and engaging, creating a sense of wonderment and discovery. With eight languages to choose from, it supports a wide variety of nations. There are a total of 8 games – finding objects- both ones that are hidden and moving- teaching coordination of kid’s visual motor systems, a star dot to dot as well as creating pathways of stars for Witch and Cat to fly, feed the dragon (moving the dragon to feed on fries), and flying a broom to pick up letters to spell simple words. I love that the targeting games have a purpose with a specific goal and are not just hot spots placed all over the page. In the star to star, you can create the pathway to the next star- making loop de loops or zigzags if you wish. Want a different color? A simple tap on the star changes the color. The only thing I could possibly want is that the book be made available for the iPad. This game is not just for Halloween, and could be played anytime. Highly Recommended. ~Jo Booth on 2013-11-16 12:53:54 ==> User rating: 5 Recommended: Yes
