About the speaker: Steve Parrish is National Advanced Solutions Director for the Principal Financial Group®. With more than 30 years’ experience as an attorney and financial planner, Parrish frequently addresses the challenges of business owners and executives nationwide. Parrish is an expert on business owner financial planning, including buy/sell agreements and exit planning as well as executive compensation. He is a recognized industry authority, spokesperson and author serving as an ongoing columnist for Forbes.com and Journal of Financial Service Professionals.
Parrish has served as an expert source for such prominent media outlets as MarketWatch, Wall Street Journal and Journal of Financial Planning. About the speaker: Kathleen W. Bilderback, JD, LL.M., AEP
Kathleen graduated from St. Louis University with degrees in Accounting and Theatre. She received her law degree and LL.M. in Taxation from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. She is the recipient of the Gary I. Boren Memorial Award for attaining the highest overall grade point average in the LL.M. program.
Kathleen specializes in estate, business and executive benefits planning and estate and executive compensation planning with life insurance. Formerly, she was a member at of the Advanced Markets Group of MetLife, where she provided training and advanced underwriting support for the top producers of MetLife and its subsidiaries. Prior to joining GenAmerica Financial (a MetLife company) in 1996, she was in private practice.
She is a member of the Missouri, Illinois and Pennsylvania bars as well as an active member of the American Bar Association and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. She is a nationally recognized speaker and author and adjunct professor in the LLM program at Washington University’s School of Law. She is a founding member of Affinity Law Group, LLC, a firm dedicated to providing legal services to businesses, their owners and executives at every stage of their life cycles. She is a member of the Business Insurance & Estate Planning Committee of the Association of Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU), and was selected as a Registered Player Financial Advisor for the National Football League Players Association. She was formerly on the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Legacy Advisors and as President Elect of the Society of Financial Service Professionals-Greater St. Louis Chapter. She was named one of Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s Up and Coming Lawyers and received the Accredited Estate Planner designation from the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils. About the talk: Attorneys in divorce cases often overlook the financial issues related to life insurance. Conflict resolution through a negotiated settlement process involving clients and attorneys in collaboration with outside tax and insurance advisors can ensure better financial outcomes for divorcing spouses.
About the speaker: Alan Jay Koshner, JD began his Edward Jones career in 2011 as an associate in the Insurance Marketing Department. Prior to joining the firm, he had obtained 15 years of extensive insurance product knowledge, compliance, operations and field sales experience at Northwestern Mutual Life, A.G. Edwards & Sons and Stifel Nicolaus.
In his capacity as a home office insurance marketing attorney for A.G. Edwards and Stifel Nicolaus, Koshner created separate consultative insurance review platforms for use by financial advisors working with high net worth clients having complex business succession and estate planning issues.
In his current position, Koshner's responsibilities include working with financial advisors and multiple areas of the firm to effectively support the most appropriate insurance based, tax-efficient solutions for the critical asset protection and wealth transfer needs of high net worth clients - including closely-held business owners.
Koshner graduated from St. Louis University Law School with a juris doctor in 1987. He also has a bachelors degree in journalism and a masters degree in political science from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Koshner is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and New York Bar Association. Koshner is a past contributing supplement articles author for Volume 1, Missouri Business Organizations desk book. The presentation will explore ways to integrate the Code of Ethics and Practice Standards into our everyday financial-service practices to deliver more effective and more comprehensive solutions and advice to both prospective and current clients. Examples and case studies will be used.
About the speaker: Hugo Ernst, CFP, ChFC, CLU has over 30 years of financial service experience, serving in advisor, management, and executive roles. In his various roles, Hugo has served as a Director for an investment advisor of mutual funds; conceptualized, created, and ran a bank broker-dealer/RIA from 1998 to 2005, after which he was recruited away to manage the broker dealer-operations for a large, privately held bank; directed a sales team while working as a Sales/Key Accounts Relationship Manager for a credit union-owed broker-dealer; and acting as a regional manager for a large insurance company with the task of partnering with advisors that resulted in delivering profitable results and increasing their book of business.
Hugo has also served as president of the Wichita chapter of Society of FSP and is currently a member of the board of directors of the St. Louis chapter of Society of FSP.
