YG

Born in Compton, California, 25-year-old West Coast American rapper, YG, has been cited as having the skills and stage presence that would result in a newfound emphasis for West Coast artists. YG has made strides since his first hit single in 2009, “Toot It and Boot It”, which made it on the Billboard Hot 100. The single’s success led to his signing to Def Jam Recordings in the same year.

Since then, YG has made the steady rise from an upstart Compton rapper with star potential to a bonafide star. He now has his own record label and is currently also co-signed to Young Jeezy’s CTE World. His 2013 single “My Nigga” featuring Jeezy peaked at #19 on the US Billboard Hot 100 with 112 million hits on YouTube. This was followed by his single “Who Do You Love” produced by DJ Mustard, featuring Drake, which peaked at #54 on Billboard Hot 100; #15 on Billboard R&B and #5 on Billboard Rhythmic and has over 70 million hits on YouTube.

Before he turned 24, the hype surrounding him solidified a short film, which was based on his album, “My Krazy Life”. Spotify’s Top 25 Artist under 25 has him listed at #14 beating Zedd, Disclosure and Demi Levato.

The release of his 2014 album, “My Krazy Life”, proved further the young MC is here to stay. Listed as the best rap album of 2014 by Billboard, it peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200, topped the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop albums and Rap albums chart and received critical acclaim and acknowledgment from his peers and industry alike. Album includes guest appearances by Drake; Lil Wayne; Kendrick Lamar; Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj to name a few.

His journey has taken him across the U.S., where he has become a fan favourite while also sharing the stage with superstars like Drake, Lil Wayne and Jeezy. The “My Krazy Life” rapper performed at BET’s 2014 Hip Hop Awards, where he won “Best Collab, Duo or Group” and “Track of the Year”.
