A pioneering training organisation which offers young people across Wales an alternative education pathway has been recognised for its innovative approach at the Regional Awards Cardiff 2016.

The Motivational Preparation College for Training (MPCT), which is headquartered in Cardiff, scooped the ‘Innovation’ award at the award ceremony, which took place at Cardiff’s Mercure Holland House Hotel on Thursday 7th April. This annual award goes to a business that has created something unique in the marketplace, and recognises MPCT’s commitment to inspiring 14-19 year olds to achieve their full potential and kick-start military, public service and sports instruction careers.

The organisation was additionally named a finalist for the Corporate Citizenship and Medium to Large Business of the Year categories, while young people’s charity the Motivation and Learning Trust, supported by MPCT, was also named as a finalist for the Not for Profit award.

MPCT’s Founder and Managing Director, Huw Lewis MBE, was also Highly Commended for the individual Citizenship Award. An ex-Royal Welsh soldier, Mr Lewis founded MPCT in 1999 and since then has led the organisation from strength to strength.

Huw Lewis MBE, Founder and Managing Director at MPCT, comments:

“I am very honoured that our contribution to the local community has been recognised by the Regional Cardiff Awards. Young people learn in a variety of ways, and MPCT offers a unique alternative with a big focus on physical training and exercise. We work hard as an organisation to help young people to achieve their potential, and it is through the dedication of our instructors and learners that we see this happen time and again. This award win is shared with everyone within MPCT.”

MPCT’s network of Military Preparation Colleges is now firmly established in Wales, with successful colleges operating out of Cardiff, Bridgend, Newport, Rhymney, Bangor, Wrexham and Swansea. MPCT also offers a dedicated schools provision to young learners, and a Sports Academy based in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Since its foundation, MPCT has enabled over 2,000 young men and women to enlist in the Armed Forces, and helped over 4,000 others to explore further employment education and training opportunities. In 2014 Ofsted rated it as ‘Outstanding’ in every area.
