Deborah & Adam
Palace of Fine Arts Wedding Photography
Our colors were burgundy, orange and gold.
The colors were chosen to symbolize fall, and our favorite baseball teams, the San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers. We thought the colors also symbolized burgundy (dark red) for passion and love, and warmth, Autumn and energy in the color orange.
We used the colors in the flower bouquets, boutonnieres, jewelry (wedding ring), handfasting cord, centerpieces, linens, wedding favors, and wedding decor.
For the groom, Adam wore a classic black suit with a white dress shirt and a burgundy tie and handkerchief. His shoes were black wingtips with a classic black dress sock.
Since our wedding was being held at the Palace of Fine Arts under the Rotunda, which is inspired by classic Roman and Greek architecture, as the bride, I wanted the dress to be classic, simple, elegant, and different from what I typically see.
To stay on theme for the wedding/location we chose roses to be the central flower in all the bouquets and boutonnieres as a classic symbol of happiness, love, passion, longevity and devotion.
We chose our wedding to be held on an Autumn afternoon (October 17th) in San Francisco at the Palace of Fine Arts. We wanted a classic venue that reflected who we are, as well as, our favorite time of the year in San Francisco.
We had a very simple and elegant ceremony that included immediate family and our wedding officiants and their daughter.
We wanted a venue that was a classic fixture in San Francisco (since we met in San Francisco), that was near the SF Bay, photographed well, and had beautiful landscaping.
Additionally, music was a central theme for our wedding, from the wedding invitations that were record albums, to the wedding favors that had our reception playlist, to our wedding cake that was topped with musical lovebirds.
We held our reception at The Plant Café (restaurant) on the Embarcadero in San Francisco.
We had a beautiful two tiered wedding cake decorated with white frosting and one layer of white cake with lemon curd filling and the second layer with chocolate cake and chocolate mousse filling.
Be grateful for every day you have with one another and keep love at the center of everything you do for one another.

Our colors were burgundy, orange and gold. The colors were chosen to symbolize fall, our favorite baseball teams, San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers. We thought the colors also symbolized burgundy (dark red) for passion and love, and warmth, Autumn and energy in the color orange. Gold also symbolizes prosperity, sparkle, and love. We used the colors in the flower bouquets, boutonnieres, jewelry (wedding ring), handfasting cord, centerpieces, linens, wedding favors, and wedding decor.
Additionally, music was a central theme for our wedding, from the wedding invitations that were record albums, to the wedding favors that had our reception playlist, to our wedding cake that was topped with musical lovebirds.
Since our wedding was being held at the Palace of Fine Arts under the Rotunda, which is inspired by classic Roman and Greek architecture, as the bride, I wanted the dress to be classic, simple, elegant, and different from what I typically see. I knew I wanted a dress with sleeves for Autumn. I found an A-line strapless dress in Champagne with a long sleeve beaded lace duster jacket. My shoes were sparkly champagne dress flats. For accessories, I had drop Swarovski and pearl earrings, a gold heart necklace given as my bridal gift, my Ferguson family Scottish tartan was wrapped around the base of the bridal bouquet, as well as, a Friesian necklace that is a Fitch family heirloom.
For the groom, Adam wore a classic black suit with a white dress shirt and a burgundy tie and handkerchief. His shoes were black wingtips with a classic black dress sock.
The wedding party was made up of three bridesmaids (included sisters of the bride who served as maid of honor and matron of honor, and sister of the groom), four groomsmen (included best man who was the brother of the groom, 2 groomsmen who were brothers of the bride and one junior groomsmen – nephew of the bride), 2 banner holders and one ring bearer (nephews of the bride).
The bridesmaids wore their own choice of a burgundy dress with a black dress shoe. The groomsmen, banner holders, and ring bearer wore a classic black suit with their choice of tie color (other than burgundy) and black dress shoes.
To stay on theme for the wedding/location we chose roses to be the central flower in all the bouquets and boutonnieres as a classic symbol of happiness, love, passion, longevity and devotion.
The bouquet included pale white and coral roses with burgundy dahlias and sprigs of dusty white astilbe. The bouquet was wrapped in the Scottish Ferguson weathered tartan with a cream satin ribbon bow. The Friesian Fitch necklace was secured and draped around the top of the satin bow.
All boutonnieres and bridesmaids bouquets were light coral roses that stayed in line with the color theme and played well in contrast to the dress and suit colors worn in the wedding.
Mothers of the bride and groom received cream roses for gratitude, simplicity, and sheer beauty.
We chose our wedding to be held on an Autumn afternoon (October 17th) in San Francisco at the Palace of Fine Arts. We wanted a classic venue that reflected who we are, as well as, our favorite time of the year in San Francisco. We wanted a venue that was a classic fixture in San Francisco (since we met in San Francisco), that was near the SF Bay, photographed well, and had beautiful landscaping. We had a very simple and elegant ceremony that included immediate family and our wedding officiants and their daughter.
The ceremony was held in the center of the Palace of Fine Arts Rotunda with white folding chairs flanking an aisle that opened to the ceremony spot where a small table was draped in burgundy linens, on each side of the table was a tall floral basket that held tall branches with a floral wreath of burgundy hydrangeas at the base. The table held a unity candle and our wedding handfasting cord just behind friends of the bride and groom that served as wedding officiants. To the left of the ceremony was seated two musicians, a live classic guitarist and a violinist that played selected songs of the bride and groom.
As bride and groom we chose to write our own vows and include the Celtic tradition of handfasting. The wrapping of the cord forms an infinity symbol. The handfasting knot that is tied is a symbolic representation of oneness between the couple. In a show of unity, they become bound to each other.
We held our reception at The Plant Café (restaurant) on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. They have a private room to host special occasions. We chose The Plant Café for its delicious organic food, location (can look out on the SF Bay), and menu that met all of wedding guests needs.
We had one long table to host all 23 guests with a tablescape that included: a long, draping cream tablecoth, an orange runner down the center of the table, variation of tall and short cylinder vases holding coral and orange roses and greenery, votive candles spread throughout the table, gold and cream cupcake boxes holding vegan chocolate cupcakes with white frosting, orange napkins, and orange and gold cinch bag wedding favors holding a custom designed tape cassette box holding a flashdrive with the wedding reception playlist.
We had a champagne toast. Our first dance was to the song “By Your Side” performed by Beachwood Sparks (originally sung by Sade Deborah’s favorite artist).
We had a beautiful two tiered wedding cake decorated with white frosting and one layer of white cake with lemon curd filling and the second layer with chocolate cake and chocolate mousse filling. The bottom layer was decorated with musical notes and the cake topper was two love birds covered in musical notes.
The Save-the-date and wedding invitations were custom designed record albums including detail and font that incorporated the wedding colors of orange and burgundy.
Menu cards and place cards were on cream stationery with a gold Celtic design along the bottom border.
Our wedding favors were a custom designed tape cassette box holding a flashdrive with the wedding reception playlist.
We also had a small wedding cake that was gluten free for our siblings that required a gluten free option.
Deborah is a Michigan-born and raised California transplant who moved to the west coast to pursue her career aspirations, snowless winters, and sought out true love on the golden coast.
Adam is a laid-back California born and raised, kitty-loving, lifelong video game lover who sought out a Midwestern girl to embrace his love of family and life.
Deborah and Adam met on Chemistry.com. After a couple of weeks of emails that ventured into phone calls and then several dates, we both knew we found a special connection that neither of us had previously. After a few months we moved in together and never looked back. After a two and a half year courtship, Adam proposed at a Billy Joel concert at Madison Square Garden – – one of our favorite musicians.
Adam proposed with a Sapphire solitaire ring surrounded by diamonds with a white gold band with a filigree arch supporting the sapphire and diamonds.
For the wedding rings, Adam chose a classic gold band and Deborah chose a classic white gold band that complemented the engagement ring.
We love and surround ourselves with music and it was a central theme to our wedding in every way.
Our advice to future couples is to be grateful for every day you have with one another and to keep love at the center of everything you do for one another. Also, to never stop learning from one another.
