New Delhi: Fujifilm India Pvt Ltd, a leader in the development and application of imaging and information innovations to healthcare technologies organized a Breast Cancer Awareness camp at Action Cancer Hospital, New Delhi marking the International Women’s Day on 8th March 2017. The awareness program empowers Fujifilm’s commitment to promote early detection of Breast 
Cancer which can help save lives.
The camp was organized in the premises of Action Cancer Hospital, New Delhi, where Fujifilm’s latest state-of-the-art technology to aid early detection of breast cancer – Amulet Innovality has been installed. During this camp, the participants attended a session on self-detection technique, the importance of early detection and how it aids in timely treatment of breast cancer by Dr. Rajesh Jain, Sr. Surgical Oncologist at Action Cancer Hospital.
Mr. Yasunobu Nishiyama, Managing Director, Fujiflm India Pvt Ltd. stated, “According to medical experts and various reports by esteemed medical institutions, it’s a proven fact that late diagnosis results in slimming the chances of survival and given the fact that more than 50% breast cancer patients are diagnosed at the later stage of this disease, it has become imperative for healthcare providers to provide women the best early detection screening facilities that can save lives.” He further added, “At Fujifilm, we are continuously innovating, creating new technologies, product and services and the AMULET INNOVALITY is one such product that has made early detection of breast cancer a reality for women all over the world.”
Fujifilm India also provided educational content on Breast Cancer Awareness and mugs to all the women patients to mark the day.
According to a recent report by E&Y, more than 50% breast cancer patients are diagnosed too late. Lack of awareness of cancer and screening for disease are significant contributory factors for the relatively late stage of the disease presentation and consequently low reported cancer incidences in India. Less than 1% of women in India aged between 40 and 69 years participate in recommended breast screening mammograms once in 24 months, as compared to 30% in China and 65% in the US. These figures are certainly daunting and make Early Detection even more imperative. Also, data from the National Cancer Registry programme shows that females in their 30s and 40s fall prone to the disease. Nearly 50% of the 144,937 women detected with the disease in 2012 succumbed to the disease, according to the Globocan project.
Talking on this crucial matter, Dr Rajesh Jain, Sr. Surgical Oncologist, Action Cancer Hospital said, “Early detection is the key for survival in breast cancer cases. The five year survival rate of breast cancer is over 90% if detected at an early stage. Today’s program is our effort along with Fujifilm India to raise awareness and promote early detection and treatment of breast cancer among patients. No matter how grave the disease is, if diagnosed at the right time, it can increase the survival chances as much as 95%.”
Also, present at the occasion, Dr Asha Aggarwal, Medical Superintendent, Action Cancer Hospital said, “We have always endeavoured to provide the very best technology at our facility and 3D Digital Mammography is another step in that direction. The Amulet Innovality uses advanced tomosynthesis technology to enable the conversion of digital breast images into a 3-D reconstruction of the breast, in contrast to the flat images produced by traditional 2-D digital mammography. Reconstructed tomographic images reveal the internal structure of the breast, simplifying the detection of lesions that may be overlooked in a routine mammography. Amulet Innovality enables diagnosticians to obtain a clearer view of the breast tissue, facilitating identification of early stage breast cancer and reducing the need for additional tests and biopsies.
