When I met Dayung and Dan, I can already feel that these are two great people.  We were drinking some craft beers and nibbled on some fries and po’ boy sandwiches and talked about their life, photography, and everything was so easy. I was amazed that Dayung always wanted to work for NASA all her life and did not have any other interests other than that. So she made it happen.

The planets were not in alignment for this day, weather wise.

Southern California was being hit by a lot of rainstorm days before this wedding.  We were hoping for the weather to change, and it did, but not enough.

Dayung + Daniel really wanted to have the outdoor ceremony by the garden at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, but since the weather was so unpredictable they did a last minute change to move the ceremony site inside the venue.  While most brides would be visibly upset of the change, she was her happy self, and was all smiles throughout the day.

Dayung and Daniel came from different ethnic backgrounds (Korean and Chinese), and it was very cool to see Dayung changing into a qipao, a traditional chinese dress to surprise Daniel’s mom.  I love this so much about them and their families.  Speaking about families, they are one of the best I have seen. I see them as being very respectful, close, playful, and comfortable with each other. I truly believe that they both come from great families.

Here are some of my favorite images to tell the story of the night.

(Special thank you for Jason Tran for second shooting with me)

The next three images were taken during the quiet moment between Dayung and her dad, moments before the ceremony started.  It is evident that they are very close and playful.  Dayung’s dad showing the love sign with his hands.

Dayung then “tricked” her dad to smell her bouquet that did not have any scent whatsoever.  They were made from dried flowers and was super gorgeous!

Looking at each other through a mirror, creating a mental photograph of the both of them.  So cute.

I absolutely love this gaze that Daniel gave Dayung during the ceremony.  I could just feel the fascination that he has towards her.

Yes, it was the day of the Superbowl

Daniel thanking everyone, but mostly towards Dayung’s mom – she rushed to give him a warm big hug.

At the end of the speech, Dayung’s dad did another “love” gesture.  Bigger this time.  The crowd erupted to laughter and applause.

I actually hated the song Gangnam Style, since it played so many times at so many weddings that I had covered, but that all changed when Dayung’s dad stepped in the middle of the dancefloor, with his sunglasses, and did a full on Gangnam Style dance to the whole song. He’s amazing.

Dayung’s sister joined him in the middle of the song.  This family is so adorable.
