Pawan Kalyan may contest polls, eyes Sanathnagar: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) might have a contest in its hands in the assembly bypolls and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, whenever these are held. Popular Tollywood actor and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is likely to contest from Sanathnagar. He also plans to field a few Sena candidates in the GHMC elections.
Sources close to the actor told TOI that it will be a win-win situation for the TDP-BJP alliance if Pawan fights from Sanathnagar. The assembly constituency is currently represented by Telangana minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who contested and won on a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket and later switched to the TRS. Talasani will most likely be the TRS candidate when the bypolls are held.

Sources in TDP-BJP conceded that Pawan had played a part in the TDP emerging victorious from Sanathnagar in the 2014 polls — a seat that was a bastion of Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy for decades.

The actor’s aides claim that Pawan has a following which can see him sail through any constituency. The actor had reportedly conducted a survey before the 2014 polls to ascertain which would be the safest seat for him. Sanathnagar came up on top, followed by Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency.

The Tollywood star, however, is yet to put forth his suggestion to the TDP-BJP alliance. He gave an indication of his keenness to contest from Sanathnagar when he took potshots at Talasani on Monday.

Pawan also wants his party to contest from at least 50 to 60 wards in alliance with the TDP-BJP in the GHMC elections — to be held by the end of this year.
