Adele and Beyoncé went head-to-head in four categories at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, but while the "Hello" singer won each face-off — and walked away with five statues in total — she may be passing her hardware on to her peer.

Upon winning her Album of the Year trophy, Adele emotionally thanked the crowd, and talked about her return to the spotlight after the birth of her son Angelo before she began to profess her love for her fellow performer.

"I can't possibly accept this award," Adele said in a speech that became an ode to Beyoncé. "I'm very humbled and I'm very gracious, but my artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album to me, the 'Lemonade' album was so monumental."

"Beyoncé was so monumental, and so well thought-out and so beautiful and soul-baring and we all got to see another side to you that you don't always let us see. And we appreciate that, and all us artists here adore you. You are our light, and the way you make my friends feel, and the way you make my black friends feel is empowering, and you make them stand up for themselves. And I love you, I always have and I always will."

In other words, there was no rivalry in sight - only love. The moment was reminiscent of the 1998 Golden Globes, when Ving Rhames gave his trophy to his peer, Jack Lemmon.

And when Adele won her Record of the Year minutes earlier, she gave yet another shout-out to Beyoncé.

"My dream and my idol is Queen Bey, and I adore you," said Adele. "And you move my soul every single day, and you have for the nearly 17 years, and I adore you, and I want you to be mommy, alright?"

Building off that momentum, Record of the Year and Album of the Year co-presenter Faith Hill took the opportunity to pay homage to Beyoncé.

"Can you be my momma too?" asked Hill. "But, I'm old enough to be your momma."

Adele went home with all five Grammys she was nominated for, and also took the time to thank her manager, husband and son in her Album of the Year acceptance speech.

But Adele likely made a bigger splash earlier in the night, in what the New York Times dubbed a "jaw-dropping live television moment," when she restarted her George Michael tribute, and swore live on-air.

Adele was not alone in her Grammy night sweep, though. David Bowie won all five of his posthumous awards for his final album "Blackstar," including Best Rock Song and Best Alternative Music Album.

The Recording Academy did heed some of Adele's pleas, however. Beyoncé left the Staples Center with two more Grammys, for Best Music Video for "Formation" and Best Urban Contemporary Album for "Lemonade."

Canadians represented at the Grammys too, with Drake winning two trophies for his song "Hotline Bling."
