Last year we had Raquel Rolnik, denounced by MPs as a 'loopy Brazilian leftie' obsessing about the bedroom tax, while ignoring the many social failings of her own country.

Now we have UN rapporteur Rashida Manjoo claiming Britain is the most sexist country in the world (based primarily on wolf-whistling apparently), yet she ignores her native South Africa which has been called the 'rape capital of the world.'

Despite being a lawyer and supposed academic, her ramblings are child-like and cliched, churning out rhetoric borrowed from a 70s feminist handbook.

My comment is below.

Quote:

Britain was today accused of being the most 'in your face' sexist country in the world by a UN expert from South Africa.

Rashida Manjoo, who is compiling a report on violence against women in the UK, said that the country has a 'boys' club sexist culture'.

Her evidence for that 'culture included women being wolf-whistled in the street and the popularity of social media, while she blamed the Government's cuts for increasing society's entrenched sexism.

Critics ridiculed Ms Manjoo's comments, pointing out that gender inequality in Britain pales in comparison to countries such as Saudi Arabia where women face systematic repression.

The UN special rapporteur on violence against women originally comes from South Africa, known as the 'rape capital of the world', where has been estimated that 40 per cent of women will be raped at some point in their lifetime.

The other countries she has visited as part of her duties include Somalia, where women are routinely subjected to female genital mutilation, and Papua New Guinea, where polygamy is common.

Ms Manjoo has been in Britain for two weeks investigating the prevalence of violence against women, and today announced her preliminary findings.

She said: 'Have I seen this level of sexist culture in other countries? It hasn't been so in-your-face in other countries. I haven't seen that so pervasively in other countries. I'm sure it exists but it wasn't so much and so pervasive.

'I'm not sure what gives rise to a more visible presence of sexist portrayals of women and girls in this country in particular. What is clear from these indications of portrayals of women and girls is that there is a boys' club sexist culture. That exists and it does lead to perceptions about women and girls in this country.'

My reply (after many edits before it was allowed):

The UN is home to many ideological zealots making similar outlandish claims (including climate change) which have no substance whatsoever beyond the propaganda. The reality is that after decades of quotas, positive discrimination & political parties pandering excessively to women courting the precious female vote, Britain is far more sexist against males. A country where women are punished far less severely in criminal courts, can retire 5 years earlier, get custody 90% of the time, have 900% more spent on health, benefit from generous divorce courts, are taxed less but benefit most from public spending, account for 70% of all university graduates, have more voting power, live 5 years longer than men etc. Don't let the truth get in the way of your so-called investigation!

Also, has Ms Manjoo ignored how according to the British Crime Survey 43% of domestic violence victims are male, with female violence at a historical high? Did she also factor in the highest rate of domestic violence per capita is among lesbian couples, always wrongly attributed to men when abuse statistics are collated?

I can't dig out the UN pledge at present, but what I remember is that it promised to protect and uphold the rights of everybody, men AND women. Where did it go so terribly wrong?
