Annapolis hosts green events, musicals, Navy events, and more this week. Try one or try them all!

Navy is in this post for two reasons this week: first up, the Naval Academy Band’s performance on Thursday; second, for the Navy football game versus Hawaii. The Naval Academy Band performance is scheduled for Thursday, November 7, at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in downtown Annapolis. The performance will begin at 6 p.m. and feature a four-piece ensemble of classy instrumental music. This event is totally free and open to all. The Navy football game requires tickets but will be an exciting battle for the ball between two great teams (Navy is of course our favorite). The game begins at 3:30 p.m. and is a home game. On the musical side of things, Navy’s Music Department entertains with a “Hungarian State Folk Ensemble” this Monday, November 4. The show requires tickets, which can be purchased via Navy’s Music site. The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
A cherished comic strip turned musical turned movie comes to Annapolis this week via The Colonial Players. Annie, the musical about everyone’s favorite redheaded spitfire, is performed on stage starting November 8. The show continues through November. If you don’t know the synopsis, bear in mind this show follows the original version of a 1930s orphanage stricken by the stock market crash that can barely contain the curious Annie. More music reverberates from the halls of Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Thursday around 7 p.m. The Todd Marcus Quartet performs classic yet updated pieces of their own creation and covers of others. Perhaps choral music is more your scene. If so, attend the Dona Nobis Pacem at Maryland Hall this Friday and Saturday, November 8-9. Tickets cost $28 but come with the chance to listen to joyous tunes from The Annapolis Chorale and Annapolis Chamber Orchestra. Friday night, the show begins at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, the show starts at 8 p.m.
The music at Rams Head on West Street is always enticing. Monday, Judith Hill from The Voice performs at 8 p.m. for $39.50. Tuesday, Michael Nesmith hits the stage with his guitar at 8 p.m. for a $47.50 show. Andy McKee performs on Wednesday, also at 8 p.m., for $29.50. Elenowen and Matt Wertz Band bring a young vibe to the stage at 8 p.m. for only $21. Delbert McClinton entertains at 8 p.m. on Friday for $65. Saturday, The Clarks perform with Scott Kurt at 8:30 p.m. for $20. Sunday’s matinee performance is brought to you by Griffin House featuring Clarence Bucaro at 1 p.m. This show is appropriate for all ages and only costs $20. Annapolis Green
Thanks to great organizations like Chesapeake Bay Foundation and events like Green Drinks, we know the value of preserving the Bay. However, the health of the environment based on gas emissions isn’t so talked about here. This is where Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) steps in–they will host a lecture this Tuesday, November 5, at Broadneck High School’s auditorium from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. about the effects of careless “fracking” for gas. This is open to all and completely free. This isn’t the only lecture scheduled this week. Try the Annapolis Environmental Commission (ACE) meeting about all sorts of environmental issues Annapolis faces this Wednesday on Gorman Street. With all the environmental awareness raised and talked about, there has to be some pay-off! This Friday, Scenic Rivers Land Trust celebrates their 25th anniversary of doing good for the area with a party full of appetizers, drinks, a birthday cake, and socializing. The staff will also discuss their progress improving the environment. Bistro at South River Golf Club hosts this event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, head to the site above.
Perhaps you’d like to get out into the environment and enjoy its beauty that way. Try out the fall marsh hike led by guides from the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater from 10:30 in the morning. The hike is less than two miles and only costs $4 per person. Guides will teach about the animals, trees, and nature seen on the hike. This hike is scheduled for Saturday.
