Filipina Leadership Summit and Gala Awards Event To Take Place October 29-31 in San Francisco
Elizabeth Bautista, Chair of Filipinas in Computing, an Anita Borg Systers Comunity, was selected as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World (Global FWN100™) by the Filipina Women’s Network.
Elizabeth leads the Operations Technology Group at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) located at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. NERSC is the Department of Energy’s (DOE) leading supercomputer center for open scientific research and Bautista’s group provides 24×7 support to ensure that these critical computing resources are available to nearly 6,000 users at universities and national laboratories across the country. The group also provides a Network Operations Center for the Energy Sciences Network (ESnet), the global, high-performance, unclassified network linking 40 DOE research sites, computational facilities and major scientific instruments.
The Global FWN100 Award™ recognizes 100 women of Philippine ancestry who are changing the face of leadership in the global workplace, having reached status for outstanding work in their respective fields and are recognized for their achievement and contributions to society, femtorship and legacy. Elizabeth was honored in the BUILDER award category. Builders have demonstrated exceptional business impact at a large workplace environment; displaying deep passion for a cause through collaborative initiatives or alliances with nonprofit organizations on behalf of her own organization; demonstrates high potential and skill with measurable results at a government agency, or organization in the public and private sectors. “Buildership” is about building better organizations, leading broken organizations to adjust, repair, and re-align.
In conjunction with her work at NERSC, Bautista manages a successful paid internship program for students, actively conducts outreach to high schools, and colleges, collaborates with her partners in national labs and universities to introduce students to computational science as a career. She also collaborates with diversity groups in schools and communities in the technology area like the Anita Borg Institute Systers to create a pipeline for an inclusive workforce program.
