Fall 2015 Season Anime Preview!

Hey guys! Welcome to Animutank’s Fall 2015 season preview. Summer season is just about wrapping up (with a few stragglers making it into the Fall season) so that means it’s time for Animutank to give you guys the preview you need for the Fall season.

What we’re looking at here is a kind of meager Fall Season. It’s still a season with ~45 series, but the overall quality is low, with just a couple of highly anticipated anime and a fair amount of sequels. There are certainly a couple of original anime with the potential to be something big. Take for example Heavy Object, which is based on the light novels by To Aru Majutsu no Index‘s author Kazuma Kamachi. Or for example Comet Lucifer or Sakurako-san no Ashimot ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru. But whether you like this season or not is highly dependent on the fact if you have watched series from last year and will be able to keep up with the sequels.

If you, unlike me, have a lot of time though, you can always watch some of the prequels to the series of this season. This season is full of highly anticipated and surprising sequels. We get to find out if our crows can really fly in Haikyuu‘s second season, see the ending of the Monogatari series in Owarimonogatari and get your fill of ecchi in the new Shinmai Maou no Testament (although everyone knows you should wait for the uncensored Blu-Rays).

The more surprising ones are for example the anime from the same series as Utawarerumono (Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen), Hidan no Aria AA and Rainy Cocoa (HOW DID THIS EVEN GET MONEY).

We’ve collected information, given unfair judgement and put it all together for you here. Like last season’s post, this one took a lot of time to make. Hopefully you will be able to figure out what anime sounds interesting enough for you to check out this season. Feel free to discuss in the comments section as well.

Every anime title links to its respective MAL page for more detailed info. Under that you’ll find the general info and the PVs/commercial links. Every anime also has a synopsis next to it, and a bit of commentary from us. We’ve also added a schedule so you can see exactly on what day which anime will show. These are Japanese showing times though. We don’t know when, how or how quick fansubbers will sub each anime. In general though, the first week is a bit slower than usual. The titles in the schedule are also clickable, so you can click each anime and check if it’s to your liking.

Some Notes:

When a fansubber says “Simulcast” you can assume that HorribleSubs will be releasing it

Keep in mind that simulcasters might actually not simulcast. Especially the first week they’ll get the anime later than the Japanese TV

The list of subbers was taken from FansubDB

There are still lots of fansub groups that have not confirmed whether they are subbing an anime or not

A lot of fansub groups (as well as CR/FUNi) tend to pick up shows after they first air so expect other groups then

If the sub group is left blank, that means there aren’t any known groups subbing it (at the moment)

If there is a question mark after the sub group, that means it’s either a rumor or uncertain

The times in the schedule were taken from MOON PHASE and are in Japanese (GMT +9) times

If a time is past the 24 hours, like 25:30, it means it’s past midnight. 25:30 in a Wednesday is 1:30 AM on Thursday

After clicking an anime, you can get back to the top by clicking the back key in your browser or the little button on the bottom right of the page

Lupin will be starring as the main character in this upcoming series set to take place in Italy and San Marino. Lupin is a thief, and along with his companions he tries to steal valuables while being chased by the inspector Zenigata.

Reflecting its setting, the anime will debut in Italy before airing in Japan. Lupin III fans will note that the titular thief now has a blue coat, following his earlier appearances in green (first series and some OVAs), red (the second series as well as most films and television specials) or pink (third series).

Yogghii: The Lupin manga’s and anime have been around for a long time (1967), and have seen moments of immense popularity. The stories are based on old Italian novels about Arsène Lupin, a smart and gentlemanly thief. Lupin III is his grandson, and he strives for the same goal has his grandfather. Lupin used to be revolutionizing, since it showed a lot of explicit things for a “children’s animation” and the main character was certainly no role model. Nowadays, with anime about people killing each other and sisters kissing their brothers, I’m quite sure that it’ll be hard to shock anyone.

That doesn’t mean that there’s nothing left for Lupin. Lupin has always been a solid series. They have a solid budget, a good cast (Namikawa Daisuke, Miyuki Sawashiro, and the dudes who did all the other Lupin voices) and past directors of Lupin went and became Studio Ghibli directors. Lupin will be a good adventure series for this season, and if everything else seems boring to you, you should give Lupin a try.

Yui Komori may (or may not) have attained vampire status, but due to her inexplicable links to the Sakamaki clan her life remains somewhat unchanged. Yet troubled by new dreams and apparitions mentioning a mysterious “Eve”, Yui’s life is suddenly once again – quite literally – turned upside down when she and the Sakamaki brothers are involved in a fiery car crash. The incident heralds the appearance of four new vampires, the Mukami tribe, and to her dismay these dashing young men have their eyes and fangs set on Yui as well!

Yogghii: Japanese version of Twilight, but without sparkling Edwards.

Tadashi: I was never an overly huge fan of vampire anime, and not to mention this looks like a reverse harem that’s also based on an otome game so I’m definitely passing on this one. But hey, if you’re into a bunch of pretty boys fawning over one girl and they just happen to be vampires, then this one is for you.

This battle action series revolves around Youtarou, a young man who is part of the last remaining order of knights in the 21st century, called “Knights of the World.” As he fights as the mysterious Knight Lancer, he must hide his identity behind a mask.

Yogghii: This anime came out of nowhere and there’s some buzz about it. Lance N’ Masques is a light novel by Koyasu Hideaki, who occasionally writes scripts for Studio Gomuki. The light novel is not really known to us in the west, and it doesn’t have a manga adaptation. It’s a pretty new one, and most people think the only reason this is getting an anime is because of the writers bond with the studio.

The story itself doesn’t look like anything special, although the art is kinda cute. Studio Gokumi itself hasn’t made any terrible anime yet though. I don’t think I will try this due to the lack of time. But if I did I’d try the first episode and see if it’s all sunshine and rainbows, or if there’s a decent story hidden inside.

Tadashi: After reading the synopsis, it’s hard to get a really good grasp on where this series will go. It’s pretty vague and doesn’t seem that interesting. The character design seems a little…flat to me and I can’t tell whether it’s cute or not lol. Anyways, there’s always the possibility of it turning out good so if you’re a fan of fantasy anime and are willing to give it a shot, go for it. I’ll be passing on this one.

The year is 1968, and the world is swept up in the Vietnam War and student protests. In this time of turmoil, a mysterious young man with white and black hair and a scar on his face is enrolled in medical school. His genius skills with a surgical knife achieve many a medical miracle and are getting noticed. This hero origin story reveals how this young man earned his medical degree and the name of Black Jack.

Yogghii: Black Jack is one of those manga I have lying around at home but never actually read. The story is one created by Tezuka Osamu, the father of anime, who made Astro Boy. The story is pretty much a shounen, with your standard heroes and villains. The change is that this time the MC is a doctor, which is kinda badass. YOUNG Black Jack however, is a story made by Tabata Yoshiaki, who also made the amazing manga Akumetsu. The story is a sort of prequel to Black Jack, about our MC when he was still a med student. This means that the story will most likely take place in the 1960’s. I wasn’t so sure about this one at first, but since Yoshiaki created it I want to try it.

Tadashi: After reading the synopsis, it definitely piqued my interest. A young man who has enough skill that he can achieve “medical miracles” sounds like an OP main character haha. I’ve always had a thing for MCs who are strong and tend to surprise those around them as long as they’re not the wimpy kind. Whether or not this turns out good, I’ll be at least giving this one a shot. And hey, he has red eyes xD

Hacka Doll The Animation, which will be a series of anime shorts, will air on the Tokyo MX TV and BS 11 television channels’ “Ultra Super Anime Time” programming block starting in October 2015.

Yogghii: So this is a short series by a brand new studio directed by a dude who only directed one anime. How they managed to get Tomokazu Sugita and Ryotaro Okiayu as the two seiyuu remains a mystery. I think it’ll be hard to build any suspense in 7 minutes, but hey, they might just pull it off.

Tadashi: A mystery short? Hm, could be interesting. The designs look a little weird to me, and I’m also not particularly a fan of shorts but as long as the ‘mystery’ is carried out right, it could make for a good anime.

Qwenthur came to the Alaskan military base to study Objects, the new weapons that have completely revolutionized war as we know it—battles are fought by soldiers controlling Objects far away from harm; however, when he starts to get close to Object pilot Milinda, will he discover the grim truth behind Heavy Objects?

Yogghii: This is the anime I might be looking forward to the most (aside from One Punch Man). The writer of Heavy object is Kazuma Kamachi, who we know best for his other works ToAru Majutsu no Index and Railgun. I really like his stories because of the incredible settings he creates and the amazing characters he writes. His worlds are always huge, full of elaborate systems and his characters are likeable, even if they are the antagonist (Accelerator). I’m quite sure Kamachi has managed to do the same thing with Heavy Object, since I heard it has quite a good story, though with some early, maybe lengthy “explanations” about the world the story takes place in.

Tadashi: I’ve heard that the light novel is actually pretty good (also comes from the same author as the Toaru series) and there are quite a few people saying this could be one of the better ones this season. It’s got action and mecha as well as “objects” which ‘m sure will be heavy. I’m definitely interested in this one and it seems like there is a lot of potential. Its cast isn’t too bad either but knowing J.C., never get your hopes up lol. I’m keeping my fingers crossed about this one. (Still no Index III though >.<)

In the second season of Noragami the main focus is on Bishamon, god of combat. She has many shinki due to her being unable to abandon spirits attacked by Ayakashi. She has a large group of shinki with her as leader, causing her trouble as she sometimes cannot tend to all of them properly, especially when one of them gets sick or is in pain. She has a strong hate for Yato, as a dark past binds the two of them. How will the horrifying events dated hundreds of years ago in combination with current evil happenings affect Yato and Yukine?

Yogghii: I watched half of the first Noragami, and lost interest pretty quickly. A lot of people told me I made a mistake and that it’s a really cool show, but I never took the time to watch it again. This second season, with the old cast and a huge budget boost, will be better than the first. I think this series is kind of a hit or miss, but if you enjoy supernatural action about gods, don’t skip this. This is one of the better shows this season.

Tadashi: I watched the first season, but unlike most people, I didn’t find it to be that good. However, I did enjoy it, and am looking forward to its sequel. Everyone is always praising Noragami, but I just can’t bring myself to love it. Let’s hope this season wins me over.

In modern Japan, where history has strangely overlapped with reality. There, seven “Kings” with great superpowers existed. Along with their clansman to whom they shared their own power with, the kings each formed clans. Order bound by blue, red flames that cause chaos, irregularities that shine in white, and reforms branched off into green. The Kings, each with their own abilities, now…

With “jungle” once again jumping back into action, the fates of the various Kings are brought together.

Yogghii: I loved the first K. The art was amazing the setting was cool and fresh. The only thing I really missed was a story I could actually follow. The anime was fast paced and sometimes you had to rewatch some parts to remember who was who. That’s why it’s important to watch the first series, and maybe even the movie before you watch this. This second season of K has the same great cast and staff as the last one, and will continue where the first season left off. Since this anime is an original, there’s no telling what might happen with the story, but I’m sure it’ll be a crazy ride again.

Tadashi: Ahhhhhhh K is back!! I originally dropped the first season, but picked it up again a couple months ago and really really really enjoyed it. The movie was great too, and I’m very excited to find out where things will head now. If this is anything like the first season and movie were, this should make for a very fun ride.

The fate of mankind is on the line, and Tatsumiyajima is the last line of defense against a hostile and incomprehensible enemy. At the center of it all, fighting for Humanity’s continued existence, is the giant robot Fafner, the dragon that guards this final treasure of mankind. Fafner Exodus will be set 2 years after the first attacks of the festums.

Yogghii: I’ve never watched the first series, but I’ve been told that Fafner is one of the better mecha series out there. The mech designs are awesome, and the characters are all strong and unique. Ayato arrived at Rikka at the invitation of the Student Council President of the Seidoukan Academy, Claudia, and right after that he incurred the wrath of the “Petalblaze Witch” Julis, and ended up having to duel her.

Yogghii: Please be a decent adaptation so I can enjoy more than 2 episodes. This LN adaptation is a bit like mahouka, but as far as LN adaptations go lately, I think it’ll probably bore me after a couple episodes.

Tadashi: A light novel adaption by A-1? Hm… haha. Going by the genres, it already seems like the typical ecchi harem but from the PVs, it definitely looks good enough to try. Animation seems good too (but most A-1 adapations tend to lose quality as it goes on…). I’m also diggin’ the designs more than I though I would. Its got a solid cast of VAs as well. But with all LN adaptions, I shall take it with a grain of salt. I’ve been disappointed and letdown far too many times when it comes to LN adaptions, especially with these genres lol.

However, one day, he is challenged to a duel by Stella, a foreign princess and the “Number One” student. In this duel, “the loser must be obedient for life.”

Tadashi: Another light novel adaption but this time it’s Silver Link x Nexus. I’ve always been a fan of Silver Link’s works so that’s a + but like I had said previously, I’m always that much more wary when it comes to light novel adaptions. However, it seems this one isn’t a harem contrary to its key visual but that doesn’t mean it won’t have harem attributes. People have been saying that this is actually a good novel, and the PVs caught my eye (ever so slightly). I’ll be giving this one a shot. Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn to shits.

Yogghii: You probably already know how these stories go, but don’t casually dismiss Rakudai. Yes, it’s your typical battle action harem high school fantasy, but it also has quite a decent staff and I did enjoy the manga more than I thought I would. Owarimonogatari follows the events of Koyomi Araragi as he meets a transfer student that turns his world upside-down.

During the month of October of his third year in high school, Koyomi Araragi is introduced to a transfer student named Ougi Oshino by his underclassman Kanbaru Suruga.

Ougi tells Koyomi that she has something she wishes to consult with him. When she draws the map of Naoestu High School, she finds something peculiar on the map of Naoetsu High School she draws.

This discovery reveals a tale that wasn’t meant to be told, and this makes Koyomi’s high school life totally different.

This is the story that brings to light “what” makes Koyomi Araragi.

This is the story that reveals the “beginning” of everything.

Tadashi: Another entry to the Monogatari series, and as a fan of it as a whole, I will definitely be watching this.
