Hello AniUsers! Sorry about the lateness of this blog post. We wanted to get some final changes done to AniList before we would go and announce them all in this blog post. So let’s get the ball rolling!

Secret Santa and Christmas Contest

We would like to thank every one of the users who participated in our (now) annual Christmas events. We had a blast planning them and putting them together for you guys, and were ecstatic to see the positive feedback from the community. We hope to plan many more fun events for you guys in the future, so keep yourselves up-to-date on our community events by keeping up with our blog. :)

AniList Redesign

For the last little while, Josh has been dedicating his time to redesigning the entirety of AniList. With a ton of new graphical changes, I’ll walk you through the most notable ones.

Registration Page

The newly designed registration page is much easier on the eyes, with a darker color scheme, but remains as simple and informative as before.

Dashboard

The dashboard has a new layout, with faster load times and better management of space, while making the most important parts of the site as a easily accessible as before.

Sidebar

With a new sidebar, instead of our standard header that we had before, we have more vertical space to fill the page with content and information, while keeping the links on the side. If you ever find the side bar is taking up too much of your precious space, you can now minimize it with the press of a button.

Search

The search function has been redesigned and optimized with the site redesign. Search no longer simply provides a list of lengthy names, but now includes the poster of each anime, so that you can easily identify the one you’re searching for. AniList search also provides same-page results, for speedier and more efficient search queries.

Browse Anime/Browse Manga

The newly designed Browse pages gives you easy access to AniList’s anime and manga information, letting you see what has recently been added, reviewed, discussed, aired and watched/read.

User Pages

The user pages have been redesigned to include a customizable top banner. This banner could be either a still image, or an animated gif, giving the opportunity to creatively express your anime tastes. The user pages still provide an ordered log of their recent activity, as well as their stats and favorite shows, characters, staff and studios.

Anime/Manga Pages

The new anime and manga pages have been designed to provide more information while avoiding massive walls of text. That being the case, we have made the pages much more visual, with a similar top banner to the ones on the user pages, graphical relations and improved organization of the data on the page.

As well as a visual redesign of the anime and manga pages, we have implemented some new data and features to the anime pages:

Music

We have now implemented the music section to our anime pages, providing you with the names and artists of the OPs, EDs and Insert Songs. We also implemented the ability to hear these songs directly on the anime page, so that you could listen to your favorite anime songs.

External Links

Below the show data, you can now find a list of buttons that will link you to legal streaming and simulcasting sites, as well as the anime’s official website.

Data Submission

With the newly implemented Submit Data field, users are now able to help us with database updates, by submitting data that may have not yet been updated by our own database team. These submissions are reviewed and processed quickly, before being added to the database.

Upcoming Features

API

PirateMech has been working hard lately on the first public version of the AniList API, and has generously provided us with a screenshot of his progress.

For those of you who aren’t developers, an API is what will allow third parties to be able to develop applications using our data, this means the creation of a mobile and desktop applications for AniList.

Anime/Manga Lists

With the redesign out of the way, Josh is redirecting his focus to users’ anime and manga lists. We plan to maintain and improve the visual customization of the lists using CSS, as well as allow customization of the lists’ data, ordering and implement new list features.

Super Secret Project

We have recently started planning for a new upcoming AniProject. We won’t be revealing any information for the time being, but we promise we’re working hard to make it as good as it can be. Look forward to it!

Whew… That was a big one! That’s it for this month’s AniList updates. Be sure to come back next month to find out what we’ve been up to.

See you around the site!

- Matchai
