Amazon introduced a new app for Android devices called Amazon Underground. This app directly addresses one of the major problems with “free” apps on Android – the fact that they are rarely really as free as we would imagine.
Games with in-app purchases that are available for free and marketed as free-to-play often end up costing much more t hen those games that charge you upfront and do not try to squeeze any additional money out of you.
Amazon Underground has all the functionality of the regular Amazon app but offers over $10,000 in apps and games including in-app items and other purchases. Amazon achieved this by actually paying developers a certain amount of money per every minute that their app is used. Underground is currently offering 471 paid apps which you can get for free.
What the introduction of Amazon Underground also means is the end of their long-running “Free App of the Day” promotion that we informed you about several times in the past. When app is available on the Undergroud it actually means that there are two separete versions available. The regular one and the Underground version.
A slight controversy arosed as a result of a long list of permissions that Amazon Undergroud App requires to function. You can read the full here and decide if this is something you can tolerate or not. Probably the most invasive persmissions are access to SMS and contact information. Many users are complaining in the customer reviews section and we have to wait to see how Amazon handles this issue.
How to install Amazon Undergroud
Amazon Underground app is not available from Google Play Store because it is prohibited for apps to offer apps or games that are included in Google Play. Instead, you need to visit amazon.com/underground from your Android Phone and download and install the app as you would any other third-party application.
