Micromax, acknowledged to be the most successful
Indian smartphone maker, is on its way in launching a few more products in the Canvas
series. Set to come through the line are Canvas 2 Plus, then Canvas Music and
now most recently it’s the new Canvas 3D. The quick launch of these android
smartphones only strengthens Micromax’s foothold in the market. Although this
brand had created enough waves with its 5 inched Canvas 2, it rose yet again
with a much more powerful phone flaunting a quad core processor coupled with a
HD screen in the Micromax Canvas HD. Wanting to give consumers even more,
Micromax emerged with its brand new product; the A115 Canvas 3D which is its
first attempt to deliver a 3D touch screen display to users. Let us have a
glimpse of how both these phones function and what they give users.
Design
The design language of the Micromax Canvas
HD is quite good and offers ease of use to consumers who are first time buyers.
The black front panel articulated with the rear white is a marvel to look at.
But Micromax A115 Canvas 3D has undoubtedly taken it a step ahead. The back of
the phone is coated with a smooth material, giving it a robust feel. Its unique
design and build sets it apart from the customary premium looking phones. The chassis
on the both the phones are built of plastic and can withstand a handful of tumbles.
Hardware
Canvas HD, featuring an IPS display of 5
inches, boasts of its 1280X720p HD resolution along with a 294ppi pixel
density. Credit needs to be given to Micromax for marketing such a high
definition display at such a low asking price. Armed with a MediaTek quad core
processor of 1.2 GHz, the phone is coupled with 4GB onboard memory, 1GB of RAM
and a microSD compatibility that can be expanded up to 32 GB. Switching over to
Micromax A115 Canvas 3D, it comes with a 5 inched 480X800p stereoscopic glasses free 3D
display. Its key features are quite similar at 1 GHz dual core processor, 4GB
ROM and it is inflatable up to 32 GB through microSD card. The RAM is quite low
at 512 M, and this might be a concern as it runs on Jelly Bean.
Imaging
Moving on to an essentially vital facet of
smartphones that users look in for; the Canvas HD bears an 8 MP camera at the
rear end with LED flash and in the front part stands a 2MP camera which
delivers when it comes to video chatting. In its auto focus mode, the device is
capable of capturing HD videos also. In Canvas 3D, the camera is a 5MP fixed
focus one with software that bears the ability of capturing 3D images. There is
a single lens that utilizes user movement and time shift for producing images
in 3D form. But even here; results are not truly satisfactory as the images are
only half decent and cannot be categorized wholly under 3D.
Software
Micromax Canvas HD operates on Android
Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system without a lot of customizations. Apart from the
pre-loaded applications, you will not find any software customizations. But the
3D technology bought into effect in A115 Canvas 3D has taken portable gaming
console to an altogether different level. Majority of games can be downloaded
and installed and will work very well.
Battery
With 2000 mAh battery, Canvas HD offers 5
hours of talk time where as its standby time can go as high up to 174 hours.
Same is the case with Canvas 3D. The scheduled 5 hours of talk time drops down
to 3 if you are accessing internet on the device.
Advantages and drawbacks aside; both phones
are unique in their way and are definitely worth purchasing, considering the Canvas A115 3D price in India currently Rs. 9433, and the Micromax Canvas HD also being available in this segment only.
