Photography and smartphone enthusiasts in India are in for a treat. The Huawei P9, featuring a camera setup co-engineered with legendary German camera-maker Leica, has landed in the Indian market with a promise to revolutionize smartphone photography.

Huawei P9 review

With a full metal unibody and chamfered edges, and a thickness of just 6.95 mm, the P9 is a great looking device, and while the device features impressive specifications as well, it is all about the camera here. We found the camera to be fantastic in our full review and camera feature focus, and further confirmation is in the fact that the P9  won the prestigious award of “European Consumer smartphone 2016-17” from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA).

Don't Miss: Huawei P9 feature focus – Camera5

The P9 has dual 12 MP Leica Summarit lenses on the back, one with an RGB sensor specifically for color reproduction and the other purely for capturing black and white detail, allowing for far better low light photography than most of the competition. A dedicated depth measurement chip allows both the lenses to focus individually (along with the laser focus) and the P9’s improved ISP automatically chooses the best result.

For a smartphone that promises to “reinvent smartphone photography” though, it’s strange why the Huawei P9 lacks Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and 4K video recording. Oh yes, Huawei hasn’t forgotten the selfie junkies and has included an 8 MP front-facing camera in the P9.
