How far along are you? 17 weeks! This is the last week in my 4th month – this time next week I can officially say I am 5 months pregnant, which feels like a crazy milestone to me. I also don’t really feel 5 months pregnant and I don’t feel like I look 5 months pregnant at this point either, but I’m sure I’ll wake up one morning and really POP! before I know it.

How I’m feeling: Early on in the week I was sick as a dog. It was seriously no fun – I was in bed for 3 days and feeling pretty horrible most of the week. I called my Dr. to get a list of things I could actually take, that was safe for the baby and the list is pretty small. To be honest, I am trying not to take any extra meds during the pregnancy as much as I can, but I felt so horrible one night last week I took some Tylenol to ease the pain. Other than that each day I have been feeling better & better which is good – I’ve been drinking lots of fluids to stay hydrated & for the most part am just about back to 100%

Total weight gain: Will report back after my doctor’s appointment this week!

How big is baby? Baby is about 5 inches long from head to bottom and weighs about 5 ounces – baby is about the same size as the placenta! My pregnancy apps said baby is as big as a turnip, but I didn’t have time to go out and get one, so this 5 in potato will be a stand in! This week baby can move his/her joints and sweat glands are starting to develop. Baby’s skeleton is also changing from soft cartilage to bone and the umbilical cord is growing stronger and thicker. Body fat formation on baby has begin to accumulate and by the time he/she is born body fat will make up 2/3 of his/her weight – chubby baby cheeks!

In other news – loud noises {like dogs barking or doorbells ringing} can startle baby, but at the same time will also get him/her used to such noises, which is pretty cool! Fingertips & toes are starting to form fingerprints this week too!

Maternity clothes: Wore my Belly Band for the first time this week {as my shorts no longer comfortably button} so that was pretty fun. I have to say that I am sort of over the Summer weather, I’m ready for it to cool down a bit & for Fall to start to make an appearance. I have some fabulous maternity jeans I want to wear and it’s too damn hot to wear them now! Plus, I’m just a little over my dresses and the one pair of shorts that fit comfortably.

Sleep: I’ve been noticing the past few days that I’ve been slightly more uncomfortable when sleeping – I am definitely more aware of my little bump & it’s a different feeling when I have to get up in the middle of the night to pee, a bit more of a process getting out of bed. Luckily, I’m obsessed with my Snoogle and it seems to somewhat help keep me comfortable, even though it takes up half the bed! #worthit I also find I am propping a pillow under my belly at night for extra support, when I have the snoogle behind me. Still waking up earlier than I need to & last night I woke up in the middle of the night with a crazy feeling like baby was doing flips in my belly. It’s hard to explain, but it was really cool.

Best moment this week: I had a sushi date night with the husband over the weekend! The list for cooked sushi rolls is short, but I made the best of it and paired the sushi with some yummy appetizers – plus the Miso soup & seaweed salad made my throat feel better! Yum!

Movement: I was coughing so much this week I think I scared the baby away! Not really, I looked it up and when I cough the baby doesn’t really feel much since it’s surrounded by so much fluid – but I was focusing on getting better & not as much on the lookout for feeling flutters. But ever since I stopped coughing so much, when I lay down I can definitely feel a little somethin’ somethin’ happening in my belly.

Food cravings: All. The. Soup. {I think being sick has something to do with this} – specifically Miso Soup & Seaweed Salad {I think my sushi date, mentioned above, has something to do with this!}. This week once my appetite picked up again I have been wanting smoothies, juices and salads – all good things to crave for sure! And finally Fierce Grape Gatorade has been making me seriously happy this week too.

Food aversions: Still chicken, but if it’s shredded it’s ok – random, right?

Belly button in or out: In, but it’s widening out at the bottom.

What I Miss: I randomly wanted a hot dog this week, which is not something I would normally eat, but I think part of me wanted it because I knew couldn’t have it. Word on the street is there are some pretty crazy hot dog creations in Chile, which will be interesting to see – I’ll have to live vicariously through Charles testing them out!

What I’m looking forward to: I took last week off from exercising since I was sick all week so I am looking forward to an extra spin class this week & getting my sweat on when I am back to feeling 100%. I’ve been getting in long walks whenever I felt up to it, just keeping moving makes me feel better – but I am definitely looking forward to hitting the gym a little extra this week.

Milestone: I can’t wait to get to 5 months next week & then the following week find out if we are having a boy or girl. It’s going to be a busy next few weeks.

**proof this little potato is 5 inches!

What a difference a month makes! I sometimes don’t feel like my bump is growing much but I love having these weekly pictures to compare for proof that the little baby inside me is growing strong! Also, I should let you know that I take these photos first thing in the morning, mainly on Tuesdays – most of the time before I eat breakfast. By the end of the day, especially after a big lunch or dinner, the bump definitely gets bigger! But I love comparing the bump from the same part of the day each week.

Grow baby, grow!
